Sheffield Wednesday have recovered from a poor start to the season to record two wins from two in September, boosting them up to ninth ahead of Saturday's clash with 5th placed Birmingham.

Carlos Carvalhal's side are one of the strongest in the division which they proved last season in their breakout year under new chairman Dejphon Chansiri.

They made some excellent signings last year such as Fernando Forestieri who scored 15 in all competitions, earning a nomination for Football League Player of the Year.

Ross Wallace, Barry Bannan and Gary Hooper were also successful signings whilst a successful defensive partnership developed between Tom Lees and Glenn Loovens.

Wednesday buoyed by their success finished in the play-offs but were beaten in the final by Hull City.

Carvalhal strengthened Wednesday in the summer adding striker Steven Fletcher plus creative midfielders Almen Abdi and Adam Reach.

Despite starting with an impressive win against Aston Villa they suffered a string of defeats to Burton Albion and Leeds United.

But in their last two games they have shown great spirit coming from behind to win both games.

Here is the Wednesday XI that will win on Saturday......

GK - Keiren Westwood

Probably the first name on the team sheet the Irish shot stopper who has been at Wednesday for two years now.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper is arguably the best in the division and has been crucial to the success of Wednesday's defence over the last two seasons.

He was named in the PFA Team of the Year for the 14/15 season and is a big fan favourite.

LB - Daniel Pudil

Even though there were some concerns after he limped off through injury after their 3-2 win over Bristol City, Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal confirmed it was nothing serious and he should be alright for the Birmingham game.

Since he was signed last season he has been outstanding at right back both defensively and as an attacking outlet.

RB - Liam Palmer

The 24-year-old has been at Wednesday for his whole career and this season has overtaken Hunt in the pecking order.

Palmer has been more impressive when he has played but Carvalhal keeps tinkering with the side and Palmer has suffered because of this.

CB - Tom Lees

Another dead certainty for the team sheet is 25-year-old centre back Tom Lees who was purchased from Yorkshire rivals Leeds in 2014.

The 6 foot defender has been one of the division's most improved players forming an excellent partnership with Glenn Loovens.

CB - Glenn Loovens

One of the changes Carvalhal will be forced into this weekend will be playing Glenn Loovens over Sam Hutchinson.

In Wednesday's midweek clash with Bristol City, Wednesday came from 2-0 down to win 3-2 but Hutchinson was sent off which is a blow as he has been excellent for them this season scoring a crucial goal against Brentford.

But Loovens is excellent cover and very experienced and built a very good understanding up with Lees in the 14/15 season.

CM - Kieran Lee

Lee has been a regular starter for Wednesday this season but you can only think his 95th minute winner against Bristol City will guarantee him the position anyway.

He is the crucial driving force in the heart of the midfield with the 28-year-old making well over 100 appearances since his move in 2012.

CM - Barry Bannan

An absolute must in the midfield is former Aston Villa midfielder Barry Bannan who arrived with the plethora of signings from last season.

Bannan proved to be an excellent signing adapting well to the Championship, proving to be one of the best midfielders in the Championship.

His passing and vision is a class above and he is a big creative spark for Wednesday.

LM - Fernando Forestieri

forestieriiii

Another unquestionable choice in the midfield is left winger Fernando Forestieri who proved to be revelation last season.

His blistering pace and skill make him exciting to watch and he can play up front as well as in attacking midfield and proved his worth last season scoring 15 goals in all competitions.

RM - Ross Wallace

The Scottish winger came in last season and proved to be an excellent signing excelling under Carvalhal.

He scored 3 goals last season and bagged numerous assists scoring some stunners like a dipping strike from 25 yards against Fulham.

ST - Gary Hooper

Even though the option is there to play Almen Abdi as a number 10 which is the position he is more suited too, despite Carvalhal playing him on the wing it's best to have Hooper up top in a 4-4-2.

Hooper has been excellent with Fletcher this season with their link up play being exemplary, and Wednesday must thrive off that and take advantage of it with them being well supplied by Wallace and Forestieri.

ST - Steven Fletcher

fletcher5544

Fletcher came in during the summer to provide cover for Hooper and Forestieri, and he has made a steady start to life at Hillsborough.

He has plenty of experience at Championship level playing excellently for Wolves at this level, and has 2 goals in 7 games for Wednesday so far.
