Brighton ensured their Championship season got off to a steady, if not slightly underwhelming start against Derby County last weekend, as the spoils at the Ipro were shared after a 0-0 draw.

The two are expected to be leading the charge for promotion come the end of the season so a draw might have been a predicted result, but Chris Hughton's side certainly made no mistake in their EFL Cup tie this week.

The Gulls played host to newly relegated Colchester United at the AMEX and they really showed their Championship dominance in a blinding second half performance which saw them crush their League Two opponents 4-0.

So with Hughton's men showing us a strong second performance this week, are there any names that deserve to stay in the side from the midweek squad after beating Colchester?

With that in mind, here's our Brighton XI that will beat Nottingham Forest this weekend...

GK: David Stockdale

Sat out the comprehensive win against Colchester but made some fine saves against Derby to keep his side in the game.

Proven at this level and will wear the goalkeeping jersey more often than not this season.

RB: Liam Rosenior

Like Stockdale, sat out the win against Colchester but he will definitely be returning for the game against Forest this weekend.

The former Hull man has Championship winning experience after getting promotion with the Tigers a couple of years ago ,and his know-how will help Chris Hughton's squad going forward.

CB: Bruno

The former Valencia man will be one of the first names on the teamsheet this season as long as he can keep fit.

Club captain, the Spaniard is a rock at the heart of the defence for the Gulls and he will play the majority of their Championship fixtures this season.

CB: Lewis Dunk

Dunk had been linked with a move to Crystal Palace earlier this transfer window but with the Eagles choosing James Tomkins instead, it's likely the Englishman will stay with Brighton for the remainder of the season.

He's another mainstay in the team and his quality on the pitch proves why there were Premier League admirers this season.

LB: Gaëtan Bong

Gaetan Bongmb

The former Wigan defender did a good job against Derby County, with his pace causing plenty of problems down the Rams' left-hand side.

He'll want his second spell in England to last longer than his first, so expect him to perform well for the Seagulls this season as he tries to earn a new deal.

CM: Steve Sidwell

The former Fulham man is a perfect central-midfielder to have at this level. Experienced, composed and intelligent, he spent time at the AMEX last season before having his move made permanent this summer.

CM: Beram Kayal

Played more games than anyone else in the Brighton squad last season, highlighting just how important he is in this Seagulls team.

He's pacey for a central midfielder and has excellent vision too. If he is playing well, the team can do well this year.

LM: Anthony Knockaert

The former Leicester City man might have felt aggrieved to have left the champions when he did in 2015, but he will feel at home at the AMEX, where he is considered a key member of the squad.

Signed in January last season from Standard Liege, he is a quick midfielder/winger who is deadly from set-pieces.

RM: Kazenga LuaLua

Didn't feature as much as he would have liked last season but the Congolese winger played well in the 4-0 win over Colchester, thus earning his place for the game this weekend.

He's been at Brighton for a few years now and their fans know what to expect- pace to burn and a real want to run at defenders.

ST: Glenn Murray

A real veteran at this level, Murray has already spent four years of his career at Brighton from 2007 to 2011.

He's a prolific goalscorer at Championship level and his goals might come to define their season.

If he can stay fit and most importantly, in-form, the Seagulls can do well this year.

ST: Sam Baldock

Started the game against Colchester and got the goal to give his side the lead and he also played well as a second-half substitute in the game against Derby last week, hence his selection for the starting XI next weekend.

There's more to come from the former MK Dons and Bristol striker and if he and Murray can get a decent partnership going, the Seagulls can do well this season.
