New Aston Villa manager Steve Bruce marked his first game with a 1-1 draw against Midlands rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers at the weekend.

Villa took the lead through Jonathan Kodjia's 15th-minute penalty, only for Wolves to level with a spot-kick of their own from Helder Costa.

However, Villa could have easily lost the game, as Wolves had a number of chances to snatch the points at Villa Park.

Villa have become the ‘draw experts’ in the league after drawing eight out of their 11 games, and in order for the club to succeed they will need to start converting draws into wins, if they want to climb the table.

They face a Reading side who have drawn their last two games and are without a win in three. Reading are strong at home, and it will be a tough test for the Midlands outfit.

Bruce will have had a few more days to get to know his players, and they need to start picking up points and quick, if Bruce doesn’t want his own fans to turn on him.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies the Villa XI that will beat Reading on Tuesday night..

GK – Pierluigi Gollini

The young Italian goalkeeper is improving every week and is now cutting out the mistakes that he was making at the start of the season.

Without him, Villa would not have scraped a point at the weekend after making some great stops from an in-form Helder Costa.

Gollini needs to maintain this kind of form and he will certainly start the majority of games in goal for the Midlands outfit.

LB - Aly Cissokho

How Cissokho is still starting at left-back is beyond me, when they have a perfectly good full back in Jordan Amavi, who would be my preferred choice.

Cissokho offers nothing for Villa and has proved to be unconvincing after a hand-ball that led to Wolves’ equaliser.

I think he will be picked again, but Bruce needs to realise that Amavi is a much more suited option.

CB - James Chester

Chester has proved to be an excellent signing for Villa, and is their calming influence among the back-four.

He was easily Villa’s best defender at the weekend, but needs to make sure he doesn’t lose his head as he could have easily picked up a second yellow card at the weekend that could have cost his side.

CB – Nathan Baker

With the injury of Elphick, this will be the perfect time for Baker to show that he should be part of Villa’s first team.

The Villa captain is a big part of the squad, but does lack composure at times.

This will be a massive opportunity for Baker, who last started a game for the Midlands side against Newcastle United, and personally I thought he was unfortunate to be taken off in that game at half-time.

Baker is slowly starting to mature into a great defender and he will be looking to steady the defence that looked shaky when Wolves were on the front-foot.

RB – Alan Hutton

The Scottish international is expected to start the game on Tuesday evening for Micah Richards, who pulled up with a calf injury with 35 minutes to play.

Hutton has also been out of favour at Villa Park recently due to his inconsistent performances, but this will be the time to show Steve Bruce what he can do.

RW – Albert Adomah

We haven’t quite seen Adomah’s ability yet at Villa, in what has been a slow start for the former Middlesbrough winger.

He threatened to explode into life at the weekend, and certainly has a trick in his locker.

There will be more to come for the winger, and he needs to start picking up his performances if he wants to continue in the first-team.

CM – Aaron Tshibola

The young midfielder is starting to get more games under his belt, thanks to his crucial equaliser against Newcastle United a few weeks ago.

He is a worker and will be a big part of Villa’s squad this season.

He needs to get on the ball more and show Bruce what he can do. He will be more fired up on Tuesday evening as he faces his former side and he will be aiming to show what the Royals are missing.

CM – Mile Jedinak

It just shows how low confidence is at Villa Park at the moment, as Jedinak has been a completely different player compared to his Palace days.

He has failed to make an impact, and although he should be given another chance on Tuesday, he is certainly on thin ice.

He has been giving away the ball far too often, which is not part of his game and looks extremely heavy-legged at the moment.

LW – Jack Grealish

Whether Grealish has put behind his party days remains to be seen, but he did look like one of Villa’s brightest sparks at the weekend.

He is energetic and looks to make things happen, which needs to rub off on the rest of the squad.

He won the penalty to put Villa in the lead, but once again his immaturity showed when he got into a scrap with Wolves’ Coady.

ST – Jonathan Kodjia

kodjiakodjia

The striker has made a good start to life at Villa Park. He is already amongst the goals and gets into the right areas, but he needs to be more clinical.

He has shown that his qualities are far above anyone else on the pitch and a couple more goals could inject some confidence in the forward.

ST – Ross McCormack

Once again, we can see that the Scottish striker oozes quality, but he needs to show why Villa brought him to the club.

He has been linking well with the likes of Kodjia and Grealish, but needs to score more goals to push Villa up the table.
