Sheffield Wednesday are trying to bounce back from last season's play-off final defeat this season with automatic promotion firmly in their sights.

Wednesday's season has been strewn with inconsistency with just 1 win in their last 5 games and have just 2 away wins all season.

They will be grateful that Saturday's opponents Wolves have abysmal home form and with a win, Wednesday can close in on the top 6.

Carvalhal added Steven Fletcher, winger Adam Reach and David Jones to add more quality to a squad that played some excellent football last season, which saw them beaten 1-0 by Hull in the play-off final.

Wednesday's star man last season was Fernando Forestieri who was nominated for Championship Player of the Season but this season he has been far less prolific.

Wednesday are struggling for goals but the defence has been as sturdy as ever with centre back Tom Lees impressive as always.

Chairman Dejphon Chansiri can provide Carvalhal with funds in January if new players are needed as they prepare for a promotion push.

Here is the Sheffield Wednesday XI that will demolish Wolves on Saturday.....

GK - Keiren Westwood

westwoodwestwoodx

Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has been solid for the Owls for a number of years now and is seen widely as the best goalkeeper in the Championship.

The 32- year-old is closing in on 100 appearances for the side, and despite being linked to a number of Premier League sides it seems he will stay at Hillsborough to help them win promotion.

RB - Jack Hunt

The 25- year-old has been very consistent since joining from Crystal Palace but there will be intense competition for his spot in the team from Liam Palmer.

Hunt burst on to the scene with Huddersfield earning a move to Premier League Crystal Palace but he struggled to get regular first team football.

After a few loan spells with Nottingham Forest and Reading he was loaned to Sheffield Wednesday and he seems to of settled in.

His defensive work is excellent and he has improved as an attacking outlet.

LB - Daniel Pudil

pudil

Pudil is another loan star that established himself well last season on loan from Watford to earn him a permanent move.

Wednesday have a lack of depth in this position but Pudil has always been quite consistent.

He has plenty of Championship promotion winning experience with Watford and this experience could be vital for a young Wednesday back line.

CB - Tom Lees

By far the most impressive development at Sheffield Wednesday in recent years is Tom Lees who has come on leaps and bounds since joining on a free agent from Leeds.

Lees has since become an essential leader at the back for Wednesday alongside Glenn Loovens at first, and now with Sam Hutchinson.

The 26-year-old is powerful and imposing and is crucial to Wednesday's excellent defensive record in recent seasons.

CB - Sam Hutchinson

Hutchinson has changed positions under Carvalhal from a central midfielder to a central defender and it seems to of worked with an excellent partnership established with Tom Lees in the heart of the Wednesday defence.

Hutchinson is a big danger from set pieces with his height advantage and has gained a reputation for his leadership and powerful tackling ability.

CM - Kieran Lee

Lee is one of the most underrated players in the Championship and has been with Wednesday for a long time now, adding to his experience.

The 28- year-old was crucial last season with 5 goals but he also protected the defence and sparked numerous attacking moves.

Lee has already scored some essential winners this season and his role as a leader in the heart of the side will make him massive this season.

CM - David Jones

Jones is one of the more experienced players in a young Wednesday side and may provide some crucial experience given what he has done with Burnley in recent years.

So far his partnership with Lee has been inconsistent but the knowledge and experience of the 2 makes them a crucial component in the Wednesday side.

Jones is an excellent passer and tackler crucial when protecting the defence.

LM - Ross Wallace

The former Burnley winger is one of Sheffield Wednesday's most underrated players along with Kieran Lee.

His creativity from the flanks provide perfect ammunition for the Owls strikers.

Expect to see him start.

RM - Barry Bannan

Like Forestieri, Bannan was a huge breakout star after being signed in the summer from Aston Villa after being released.

Bannan excelled at Championship level using his passing, vision and Premier League experience to dominate midfields and he scored numerous screamers last season.

His pace and passing make him dangerous to any opposition and he's essential for Wednesday down the wing this season.

ST - Steven Fletcher

Fletcher is also one of the more experienced players in the Wednesday line-up having had great success at this level with Wolves before.

After initial success in the Premier League, he flopped at Sunderland and enjoyed little success on loan at Marseille before his move to Wednesday.

Despite lacking mobility, he is a good finisher and will be the main source of goals for Wednesday this season.

ST - Fernando Forestieri

forestieriddddd

The star of the Wednesday side and one of the best players in the Championship Fernando Forestieri was purchased from Watford in the summer of last year.

He scored an incredible 17 goals last season and mainly played up front and after surviving plenty of summer transfer speculation he stayed at Wednesday, but has been in and out of the team.

With 4 goals and 2 assists expect him to explode back into life very soon.
