Newcastle United showed great belief and character to secure their last-gasp comeback against Norwich City on Wednesday night.

Norwich led 3-2, but two injury-time goals turned the game around that pushed the Magpies up to 3rd in the table with just a point behind the Canaries.

That victory was crucial for Rafael Benitez’s side after a slight hiccup of league form recently – conceding a last minute goal against Aston Villa to draw 1-1 and losing to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They will be looking to kick on this weekend and they face a Rotherham United side, who are rock bottom of the Championship with just six points.

Alan Stubbs’ men have lost their last three consecutive games and possess the worst defensive record in the division, while this could be the worst time to play Newcastle United, who have scored the most goals in the Championship.

The majority of the Geordie supporters will expect a comfortable victory at the New York stadium.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams predicts the side that will hammer Rotherham United at the weekend..

GK - Karl Darlow

darlowwww

The young goalkeeper was dragged into the starting side after some unconvincing performances from Matz Sels of late.

The goalkeeping department is probably Newcastle’s weakest part of the team, and Darlow certainly did not have the most comfortable of nights at St James Park on Wednesday.

However, I expect him to keep his place in the side for the trip to Yorkshire.

RB – DeAndre Yedlin

Ever since, Yedlin has been brought into the first team to replace Vurnon Anita, who picked up a three game suspension, the American has been brilliant and looks to be a great acquisition from Rafael Benitez.

He offers a great energetic outlet down the right hand side and is efficient with his attacking and defending.

Anita, who started the campaign at right-back for the Magpies, is available for the weekends clash with the Millers, but if Yedlin shrugs off an ankle knock that he picked up this week, he should keep his place in the squad.

CB – Jamal Lascelles

The Newcastle captain looked extremely unconvincing in the Norwich game, and in my opinion it was possibly one of his worst performances this season.

The central defender is a big part of Newcastle United’s side and he has taken on the captaincy very well at a fairly young age.

He has formed a good partnership with Ciaran Clark, and I expect that Benitez will not want to change up his defence despite leaking three goals.

CB – Ciaran Clark

After a shaky start to his Newcastle career, the Irish defender is slowly starting to solidify himself as the first choice centre back.

He has the potential to be a great defender, but he needs to cut out the mistakes and prove to Benitez that he deserves to be in this talented side.

Clark was one of the better defenders on Wednesday night, and he continued to battle in the game despite a whack on the nose.

LB – Paul Dummett

Paul DummetPaul Dummet

Dummett is another player that needs to do a bit better, if he wants to keep his place in the first team.

There is no doubt that the Welsh full back has an enormous amount of potential, but he looked a bit out of depth on Wednesday night.

One of his abilities is his energy getting forward to support his wingers, but that was lacking in mid-week when the Magpies needed urgency.

RW – Yoan Gouffran

The French winger looks a completely different player this season after sitting on the fence for most of his career at St James Park.

He made up for his penalty error by bagging himself another goal at Norwich City to draw them level.

His confidence has significantly increased during his string of first team performances and he has the ability to be a key player in the Magpies quest for promotion.

CM – Jack Colback

Despite battling hard throughout, the midfielder was overridden in midfield on Wednesday night, but is the player who is not afraid to put a tackle in.

There is a strong competition for places in the Magpies midfield this season, but Benitez will give Colback another opportunity to prove his worth in the squad.

CM – Jonjo Shelvey

jonjo-shelvey-jonjo-shelveyd

Keeping Shelvey at St James' Park this summer is a big positive for the club; he is extremely consistent and has a great range of vision to pick out passes from long range.

Another excellent performance on Wednesday night and he was arguably the best player on the park during their 1-1 draw with Aston Villa.

A certain first name on the team sheet for this weekend.

LW – Matt Ritchie

Matt RitchieMatt Ritchied

Ritchie is another excellent addition for the club, and he has done well since his move up north, but I still think there is more to come from the winger.

He is always alert and looks to get on the ball whenever possible.

His left foot is a major asset to the team, and proved that he is one of the club’s main sources for assists after setting up Gayle’s opener.

CAM – Mo Diame

diamediamediamediame

Diame is expected to just sit off Gayle in the side for the weekend, but he was extremely poor against Norwich.

He never really got into the game and did not show why Rafael Benitez brought him to St James' Park.

Diame will certainly bounce back and I expect him to be amongst the goals at the weekend to pay back for his uninspiring performance from Wednesday.

ST – Dwight Gayle

Dwight GayleDwight GayleDwight Gayle

What a signing Gayle has been for Newcastle.

When Benitez brought the former Crystal Palace man to the club, everyone knew of his goal scoring abilities and he is certainly proving to be a classic number nine.

His hat-trick against Newcastle puts him joint top scorer in the league and I expect him to bag 25 plus goals this season.

The forward is certainly a player who should not be playing his football in the Championship.
