Wolves will meet Newcastle United again in the EFL Cup this week hoping for a repeat of the result from the weekend, where Walter Zenga's men walked away 2-0 victors from St James Park.

It was a much improved performance from Wolves, and somewhat of a surprise, given they had lost 4-0 to Barnsley last time out while the Magpies had romped to a 6-0 success over QPR.

Much has been made of the way the Molineux men have assembled their squad following their summer takeover, but few can deny that if everything gels quickly, they will make a real good fist of fighting for the promotion places.

A repeat weekend fixture at St James beckons tomorrow though, and Zenga will be hoping for a repeat result to guide his troops into the next round of the competition.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at how Wolves might line-up to defeat Newcastle United for the second time in a week...

GK - Carl Ikeme

The Wolves number one is likely to maintain his place in the starting line-up despite it being a cup game.

Walter Zenga will be keen to build some consistency across his backline and he will see Ikeme as imperative to that goal.

RB - Matt Doherty

Matt DohertyMatt Dohertyss

The consistent full back is a model professional and a class act for Wolves, and he will be hoping to make it 2 wins in a week up at St James.

Doherty will keep his place at the back, and will more than likely cement that place throughout the season.

CB - Danny Batth

batthhhhh

The big defender was exceptional at the back at the weekend, and he will be looking to repeat that performance come tomorrow.

Batth is the main man for Wolves at the back, and they will need him to be at his very best.

CB - Kortney Hause

kortney hause

Although it was Dominic Iorfa who played at the weekend, a bit of rotation could be likely with it being a cup game, and Hause might get the nod.

Another excellent young defender, Hause will relish the opportunity of getting 90 minutes under his belt.

LB - Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

The on loan Man United man has been excellent since arriving at Molineux, and impressed once more at the weekend.

Borthwick-Jackson might well have to keep Matt Ritchie quiet, but he is more than capable.

CM - Conor Coady

Coady came on late in the day at the weekend but might find himself in line for a start in the cup game.

Coady has a box to box style but is in danger of being left behind at Wolves with all the new signings, so a big performance would do him the world of good.

CM - David Edwards

Dave EdwardsDave Edwardsddd

Edwards has all the experience Wolves need at this level, and might well be asked to play a pivotal role again.

The Welshman has been instrumental over a number of years for Wolves, and he might well get the chance again.

CM  - George Saville

With squad rotation again in mind, Saville might well get the chance to impress in the cup this week.

Saville is always reliable, and Zenga might well trust him with keeping some of Newcastle's midfield at bay tomorrow.

RW - Helder Costa

The flying winger scored a beauty at the weekend and terrorised the defence of the Magpies.

Another repeat performance would go down a treat for Wolves fans if he can provide it.

LW - Joe Mason

masonnnnnn

The versatile forward could well be given the chance to impress with changes expected to be made, and Mason would do well to seize his chance.

If Mason can find his top form, he is an excellent forward and will be a useful player for Wolves over the season.

Fwd - Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

The striker has started his Wolves career pretty well, and might well fancy his chances of getting on the scoresheet this week.

Bodvarsson certainly looks the part, and manager Walter Zenga will be hoping for even more goals soon from his summer signing.
