Aston Villa will make the trip to Ashton Gate this weekend, buoyed by a recent upturn in results and general attitude around Villa Park in recent weeks.

Robert Di Matteo is slowly but surely managing to put his stamp onto the team he inherited in the summer, with incomings and outgoings seemingly happening on a frequent basis as he moulds his squad.

Last time out they were arguably the better side in a 0-0 draw with Derby County, hitting the woodwork and creating the better chances during the 90 minutes.

However, a point was a decent result in the end at the iPro, and gives the Villans something to build on going into this weekend.

Bristol City will represent a good test for Di Matteo's men. The Robins are building a steady site themselves as they look to edge closer to the play-off places this season, rather than a relegation battle.

Here, FLW writer Lee Connor looks at how Villa could line up to beat Bristol City this weekend...

GK - Pierluigi Gollini

It's been a solid start to life at Aston Villa for Gollini, who has looked assured since making the move to the Midlands in the summer.

Gollini will keep his place, and is likely to be hard to dislodge from the number one spot as the season goes on.

RB - Ritchie De Laet

The new signing could well come in to make his debut this weekend following his move from Leicester, so it could mean he dislodges Bacuna from the right back berth.

Villa haven't brought De Laet in to sit on the bench though, so a first start could be likely this weekend for the new signing.

CB - James Chester

The £9m signing from West Brom was a real capture when they managed to get  him a few weeks back, and he will no doubt start again.

Chester and Tommy Elphick have the potential to be an excellent partnership this season for the Villans, and another clean sheet this weekend would not be too much of a surprise.

CB - Tommy Elphick

The former Bournemouth man was a shrewd signing by Di Matteo, and in my eyes probably his best signing of the summer.

Elphick is a leader, and this shines through in his performances. He will be instrumental if Villa are to walk away with a result this weekend.

LB - Aly Cissokho

While Jordan Amavi remains in the squad, Cissokho will likely get the nod again this weekend after looking solid enough last week.

The former Liverpool and Valencia man might well have found his level and be regaining some confidence following two miserable spells in the Premier League, and he should get his chance once more.

CM - Ashley Westwood

Westwood is one of the team's most consistent performers and is an important cog in the Villa midfield.

Westwood should revel in what is slowly becoming a completely new look line-up, with the attacking options in front of him giving him plenty to choose from in terms of playing the ball from midfield into attack.

CM - Miles Jedinak

The new signing from Palace is a yet another shrewd piece of business by the club.

Jedinak has all the experience and tools to dominate the centre of the park for Villa, and could become one of the signings of the season if he settles in quickly and hits the ground running.

CM - Gary Gardner

Gardner is set to join Forest

Gardner has been a regular in the side this season following a loan spell with Nottingham Forest last season.

The spell away seems to have benefited him with his form so far, and the addition of Jedinak in next to him can only be a good thing for his career.

RW - Jordan Ayew

Ayew has performed admirably so far this season, so another start down the right hand side is on the cards.

In a front three, Ayew could cause havoc if on form. He will be hoping his goal-scoring touch returns this weekend at Ashton Gate.

LW - Ross McCormack

While I have him as a left winger, really McCormack should have licence to roam from that side of the field.

The big summer signing from Fulham is already off the mark in terms of goals, but it is his overall play and eye for laying on his teammates which sometimes goes unnoticed.

FWD - Libor Kozak

kozak

With Rudy Gestede pulling up with injury last week and still uncertainty around whether he will be fit for this weekend, Libor Kozak could get his chance to impress.

The big striker came off the bench last week and was replaced near the end, but Di Matteo might well give him another chance and Kozak would be wise seize the opportunity this weekend.
