Wolves are in poor form this season and will now be relying on Paul Lambert to guide the club up the Championship table.

The new ownership at Wolves has invested well in the side, bringing in talented youngsters from across Europe and on paper it looks a talented squad.

But the proof of the pudding is in the eating, and the league table tells you the new-look Wolves side hasn't gelled and the tactics have been all wrong.

Wolves will be encouraged by last week's game with a good performance against Derby on Saturday and they were unlucky to lose 3-2.

Wolves have an abundance of fine attacking talent such as Helder Costa, Ivan Caveleiro and Nouha Dicko, who will hit the goal trail soon after struggling with injury.

They languish in 19th just three points off the relegation zone and haven't won since September and in-form Preston will provide a stern task.

Here is the Wolves XI that should play on Saturday....

GK - Carl Ikeme

Andy Lonergan at home to Derby but the 3 goals conceded may mean a return to Ikeme for the game at Deepdale.

Ikeme is very experienced at Wolves and in the Championship in general, amassing nearly 200 appearances for Wolves.

Lonergan is more utility as he showed at Fulham and the experienced Ikeme will be needed to organise the woeful defence.

LB - Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

The Manchester United loanee has been one of the few bright points for Wolves this season, pushing regular left back Dominic Iorfa into a central role.

Also the poor form of Kortney Hause has given the England U20 international a chance to shine.

RB - Matt Doherty

Doherty has been consistent at right back all season dislodging young prospect Kortney Hause from the first team.

He has rapidly improved over the last few seasons, cementing his starting place at right back with a string of impressive performances.

He is essential for Wolves at the back and is a goal threat providing a useful attacking outlet and good defensive cover.

CB - Dominic Iorfa

Another man that has been pushed this season is talented youngster Dominic Iorfa, whose performances have been questionable.

He had his breakthrough season in 14/15 impressing fans with his amazing pace and crossing at left back.

Whilst still important for Wolves and England U21's he needs to find some consistency under Lambert.

CB - Danny Batth

Wolves simply need more options at centre back as their current defensive record is shocking and the performances of Danny Batth have been woeful.

He is not finding any consistency and often switches off at crucial moments.

But Wolves have barely any options and the once highly rated Batth needs to start performing or Wolves will be in trouble.

CM - Romain Saiss

As a plain swap for Conor Coady, Lambert should give the talented Romain Saiss a chance to impress at the weekend.

The 26-year-old Moroccan was thoroughly impressive for Angers in Ligue 1 last season and he should get a chance to impress as Conor Coady has been woeful at protecting the defence this season.

Saiss is stronger in the tackle and recycles the ball better and thoroughly deserves a chance.

CM - David Edwards

Dave EdwardsDave Edwardsddd

The first name on the team sheet and captain should be the very impressive David Edwards who goes from strength to strength in the heart of the Wolves midfield.

His passion and work-rate is unmatched in the Wolves side and he is a bigger menace in the box than any other Championship midfielder, scoring a bounty of headed goals.

His attacking play is excellent exhibiting great passing and distribution and is probably Wolves' most important player.

CM - Joao Teixeira

In a box to box midfielder role should be the impressive Joao Teixeira who was one of the many exciting attacking players brought in during the summer.

The player is versatile and plays in a number of attacking positions but I think he has the work-rate and speed to play the box to box midfielder role, which Jed Wallace failed to do earlier in the season.

He has 2 goals so far and has created an abundance of chances.

LW - Helder Costa

One of the most impressive coups of Wolves' summer spending spree was the loan signing of young Portuguese winger Helder Costa from Benfica.

He has been their best player so far with his speed and flare, and is too hot to handle for most Championship defences.

One of the brightest prospects in Europe, he has played for Benfica and Monaco and when paired up with Dicko he will create huge numbers of chances.

One of the most exciting players to watch in the league.

RW - Ivan Cavaleiro

Another huge coup for Wolves in the summer was Cavaleiro who arrived from Monaco.

He struggled to establish himself at Benfica or Monaco but the 23- year-old has bags of potential and the fans are excited to see it.

He has 2 goals so far and has struggled for consistency, but his raw ability makes him essential for Wolves going forward.

ST - Nouha Dicko

Nouha-Dicko

Dicko is the main man for Wolves so it was a big blow when he started suffering from numerous injuries this season.

Bodvarsson has filled in with disappointing results scoring just twice and Dicko will be a welcome return as he has great physical strength allowing him to bully defenders.

He scored 27 goals in his first 2 seasons and is absolutely key if Lambert is to turn Wolves around this season.
