It's been an incredible start to the season for Reading, with Jaap Stam leading his side to an unprecedented fourth position in the Championship table after the first 16 games of the season.

Many thought the appointment of the former Manchester United centre-back could have gone one of two ways, as the 44-year- old has very little managerial experience, but it's worked out well so far and Reading are reaping the rewards.

Most of his signings have worked out well too, and in particular John Swift, whom he signed from Chelsea after the 21-year old had an impressive loan spell at Brentford last season.

However, after sustaining an injury on international break, the club are likely to have to do without him for two weeks, and definitely for this weekend.

That is likely to be the major concern for Stam, especially considering his side's current form.

Reading have won three in a row and haven't conceded in that time, but how they will fare without Swift is yet to be determined - he had only missed one game so far.

Burton, on the other hand, are struggling with their first taste of second tier football.

They are sat in 18th place and haven't won since the 2-0 win over Birmingham almost a month ago.

Nigel Clough will be looking to gain a massive scalp and an even bigger set of three points when the sides meet this Saturday.

Here, in the opinion of FLW's Ryan Evans, is a Reading XI that will beat Burton Albion on Saturday...

GK: Ali Al-Habsi

al-habsid

Part of the reason why Reading find themselves in such a lofty position is their solid defence, led by this man.

The Omani international has 118 international caps, and has played over 100 times for Wigan, including in the Premier League, making him one of the most experienced goalkeepers in the league.

He has kept seven clean sheets already, which puts him joint second in the division on this statistic, and if Al-Habsi can keep this form up, then expect to see the Royals challenging at the right end of the table come May.

RB: Chris Gunter

Despite taking up a starring role in the Welsh back five for the European Championships, Gunter has taken some criticism from fans who believe that his performances just aren't up to the same standard for his club.

Nevertheless, it appears that his manager disagrees with them; Gunter has been ever-present in the league this season and has even captained the side on three occasions.

The 27-year-old has over 300 appearances in the Championship, an astonishing figure and will be hoping to use some of his nous to help his side overcome Burton this weekend.

CB: Paul McShane

The experienced defender has been the glue that's kept the Reading back five so strong all year, and whilst he's not the most athletic of defenders, he's still important to the make up of this team.

Reading have won their last three games, not conceding in any.

It's no surprise that after missing a couple of matches, the return of the 30-year old has signalled the return of the Royals picking up all three points.

CB: Liam Moore

liam-mooreliam-moore0c

The 23-year old secured a permanent move to Berkshire from Premier League champions Leicester City in August, after spending a stint of last season on loan at Bristol City, where he made ten appearances.

So far this season, he's played in 12 of the 13 league games he's been available for, and is McShane's regular centre-back partner.

With the Royals not having conceded a goal for a month, there's no reason to suggest that Moore will be losing his place in the side anytime soon.

LB: Jordan Obita

The 22-year old has 14 Championship appearances so far this season, with all-but-one coming at left-back.

However, a large proportion of these have been from the bench and he's not been able to displace ex-Manchester United defender Tyler Blackett from the first team on as many occasions as he'd like.

Obita was important to both Steve Clarke and Brian McDermott's teams last season, and if Obita can nail down a place in Jaap Stam's team, he could improve their attacking ability down the left-wing, linking up well with whoever plays in front of him.

CDM: Joey van den Berg

As mentioned above, the biggest selection dilemma for Jaap Stam this weekend will be how to replace John Swift.

The playmaker has been one of the Royals' best players so far this season, and unless he is properly replaced it threatens to temporarily derail their season.

In my opinion, I would replace him with fellow summer signing Joey van den Berg.

The Dutchman has played 16 times this season, eight times at centre-back and eight times in defensive midfield.

In all the games that van den Berg has played in the holding midfield role, Reading have fallen to defeat only once and have conceded just five goals.

This is why van den Berg gets the nod for me as Swift's replacement, ahead of the likes of Stephen Quinn and Liam Kelly.

CM: Danny Williams

With van den Berg slotting in at central defensive midfield, it means Danny Williams is going to need a new position.

I believe that he should move forward into a more dynamic role.

The 27-year old has played six times in this more advanced position, with his Reading side unbeaten during those games.

In fact, the former Hoffenheim player scored the winner in the 2-1 victory over Ipswich back in September whilst playing in this position, so is no stranger to stepping up the field of play.

The German-born US international could well hold the keys for Reading in this match, and whether he steps up could well decide the outcome of this tie.

CM: George Evans

Williams's midfield partner looks like being 21-year old George Evans, who was missed just the one game in league and cup this season.

He's got a goal and an assist from his 19 games so far this season, with the latter coming in his side's 3-0 win over Wigan last time out.

Evans looks like being a key player under Stam and I fully expect him to be running onto the Madejski Stadium pitch once again come 3pm on Saturday.

RW: Garath McCleary

mcclearyvcx

The Jamaican international has been in fine form of late, scoring three in his last two and being involved in five goals in his last five games.

It was his brace that took the game away from Wigan in their last outing, and I fully expect him to be the most dangerous of Reading's weapons when they face Burton on Saturday.

In total he has six goals and four assists this season, making him the Royals' top scorer.

If the club are going to continue their great form, then McCleary is surely going to have a lot to do with that.

ST: Yann Kermorgant

yann-kermorgantds

Since scoring 15 goals and claiming 11 assists to help AFC Bournemouth win the Championship back in 2014-15, everything that Kermorgant has tried has been largely unsuccessful.

He made just seven Premier League appearances without scoring before Eddie Howe sold him to Reading in January, and then went on to score just three goals in 17 Championship games for the Royals.

This season has been slightly better, already bagging four including one last time out, which leads me to believe that Stam will keep the Frenchman in the side for the game against Burton.

However, with little alternative striker options, if Reading are going to seriously mount a promotion challenge then Kermorgant will have to start scoring more.

LW: Callum Harriott

callum-harriott9009

The 22-year-old has operated on both flanks this season, the highlight of which being his brace in the EFL Cup win over MK Dons.

He's shown some promise this season already, and I believe he can shine again on Saturday.

His abilities will be enhanced if the attack-minded Obita starts ahead of Blackett at left-back, which could lead for the Burton right-back to have a very long afternoon indeed.

Reading fans, what do you think? Would this team be able to beat Burton on Saturday? What changes would you make? Let us know below!
