What a weekend of East Midlands football to come this Saturday, Rowett will begin his managerial reign as Derby County manager against bitter rivals Nottingham Forest.

The Rams made a swift appointment of the former Birmingham City boss following the sacking of Steve McClaren last week.

Rowett made 120 appearances for the Rams from 1995 to 1998 and said he has a “special bond” with the club.

Derby come into the important game in unimpressive form – picking up just six points out of a possible 27 throughout February and March, which ultimately sealed McClaren’s fate.

East Midlands neighbours Nottingham Forest, who also made a quick appointment in Mark Warburton this week, have a similar trend of form to the Rams – picking up seven points out of a possible 24 – that sees them lie just two points ahead of the drop zone.

This is a massive game for both clubs, Derby need the points to mount a late play off push and Forest are clinging on for their Championships lives.
