After last season’s campaign almost resulted in an unlikely promotion via the play-offs and a strong summer of spending, there was an optimistic buzz surrounding Sheffield Wednesday’s chances of promotion this year.
It is safe to say, however, that it has been a disappointingly underwhelming start to this year.
Eleven points from the opening eight games leaves Sheffield Wednesday sitting in 14th place.
This sort of inconsistent and fluctuating form is not ideal for the Owls if they are targeting a promotion campaign as they are already falling behind the pack.
No games are easy in this year’s Championship as the league promises to be one of the tightest and most hotly-contested seasons for a long while.
Carlos Carvalhal will know that his team will have to up their game to stand a chance of promotion, and they need to get all three points this weekend as they host Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough.
