This weekend pits two of Yorkshire's biggest teams against one another when Leeds United face off against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough in the early kick-off.

The Owls go into this match as favourites after coming out of the traps quicker at the start of this season, but as is often said, the form book goes out the window in derby matches.

The home side are currently sitting as the prettier of the two sides after notching up 4 points in their first 3 games, whereas the Whites have only mustered the 1 point.

This article takes a look at the 4-2-3-1 formation Sheffield Wednesday should deploy to beat their visitors on Saturday...

Kieren Westwood - GK

Any good team needs to be built on the solid foundations of a good goalkeeper, and in Kieren Westwood, the Owls have one of the most talented goalkeepers in the league.

The Irishman is a highly experienced goalkeeper and would have the number one jersey in Carlos Carvalhal's team.

Since signing for the club, the 31-year old has been one of the most consistent players and has become a huge fans favourite at Hillsborough.

The Sheffield Wednesday faithful have been delighted at his recent contract.

Jack Hunt - RB

huntttt

Attack minded full-back Jack Hunt would earn a starting berth at RB in this Sheffield Wednesday preferred XI.

The 25-year-old excels when going forward due to his technical ability in possession, excellent with the ball at his feet and is frightening for opposition full backs due to his pace and fearlessness to run direct with the ball.

A very experienced and intelligent footballer, he has represented the likes of Crystal Palace, Rotherham United, Nottingham Forest and Huddersfield Town throughout his career.

Tom Lees - CB

tom leesd

Despite missing the midweek defeat to Burton through injury, Tom Lees is expected to be fit for Saturday's game against his former club and would therefore be thrown straight back into action.

He began his career at Leeds United and actually made over 100 appearances for the senior team after rising through the youth setup at Elland Road.

Lees has handed the club a huge boost by signing an extended deal, news which was met with delight.

Sam Hutchinson - CB

hutchinsonnnn

A shortage of defensive options led to Wednesday playing a makeshift centre-back partnership against Burton Albion, in the form of Sam Hutchinson and Jose Semedo.

While Hutchinson is naturally a defensive midfielder, he is very accomplished at playing a number of different roles with centre-back being one of them.

The 27-year-old has been at the club for 4 seasons now and has made over 60 appearances for the Owls, emerging as one of their most formidable players.

Daniel Pudil - LB

Czech Republic international Daniel Pudil would be given a starting berth in the role of left full back in this Wednesday XI.

The former Watford ace is a highly experienced defender who has made over 400 senior appearances, a versatile operator who is accomplished at playing anywhere on the left-hand side.

The 30-year old had an excellent season on loan with the Owls last campaign, where he endeared himself to the fans with his consistently impressive performances, which led to a permanent deal.

David Jones - CM

Jones

31-year-old David Jones would get himself a starting berth in a holding midfield role in this midfield.

The former Burnley man brings bags and bags of experience into the team and would be the perfect choice for a deep-lying midfielder.

Boasting good defensive awareness, he has the maturity and the discipline to hold his position, knowing not to venture too far forward.

Bite in the tackle, Jones is very accomplished at taking on a role of man marking a member of the opposing team.

However, he is also a very technical footballer and when on the ball he has a great range of passing and excellent vision, which will surely endear him to the Hillsborough faithful.

Kieran Lee - CM

kieran leed

Huge fan favourite Kieran Lee would be David Jones' partner in midfield for this huge Yorkshire derby against Leeds United.

Work rate, desire and passion are traits that are needed in derby games and it just so happens that the 28-year-old has those three traits in abundance.

Lee is currently in his fifth season with the club and has experience of playing in derby games for the club before, therefore knowing just how important the bragging rights are to the fans.

Having made nearly 150 appearances for the Owls, scoring 14 goals in the process and has consistently put in impressive performances.

Ross Wallace - RW

wallaceee99

Wallace enjoyed a good season with The Owls and was a key part in reaching the play-off final, making 42 appearances in all competitions scoring 4 goals in the process.

The Scotsman would be given a starting role in this incarnation of a Sheffield Wednesday midfield on the right wing.

Although he is a naturally left-sided player, he is at his most dangerous when cutting inside from the wide onto his favoured left foot.

It gives him the opportunity to unleash one of his rocket strikes that every Wednesday fans knows he has in the locker.

Fernando Forestieri - CAM

forestieriiii

Ignoring the latest controversy and speaking purely on football terms there is no doubting that the Italian is the catalyst in this team.

When he plays well, the team plays well.

The former Italian under-21 international enjoyed a fantastic season last time out where he played 36 times and scored an impressive 15 goals.

Still, he brings so much more to the team than just his outlay of goals.

The 26-year-old has excellent technical ability and is the main link between the strikers and the midfield when he plays in his favoured CAM role.

Barry Bannan - LW

The intense competition for places in central midfield roles is likely to give Carvalhal somewhat of a selection headache, though the Scotsman is simply too good to leave it.

Bannan should be allowed the freedom to float off the wings and pick up dangerous positions in behind the striker, where he arguably at his most dangerous.

The former Crystal Palace man impressed last season for the Owls in a campaign where he made 41 appearances, scoring 3 goals and quickly becoming a fans favourite at Hillsborough in the process.

Gary Hooper - ST

hooperrrr0099

Gary Hooper poses more of a goal threat than Steven Fletcher and therefore he would get the nod at the weekend.

At this level, he has been prolific and has continued that trend since signing for the club.

A classic goal poacher, he has a knack of being in the right place at the right time as all natural poachers have.

Since signing for the club he has made 35 appearances, notching an impressive 13 goals.
