After being relegated from the Premier League last season, the objective for Norwich City is purely to gain promotion back to the top flight.

Alex Neil's side have had a solid looking return to the Championship as they sit in 5th place, but their recent results have maybe shown signs of complacency within the side.

The Canaries battled with Cardiff City on Saturday afternoon and came out on top with a 3-2 victory, after losing 3-0 to Birmingham City prior to the international break.

Norwich don't have long to recover from the close encounter as they play host to newly-promoted Wigan Athletic who arrive on the back of 3 consecutive defeats.

City will be hoping that they can take another three points from this one and there is no doubt that the Carrow Road crowd will try their best to cheer them all the way to a victory.

FLW writer Tom Rawcliffe identifies the line-up which Alex Neil may choose to field for this encounter.......

GK: Michael McGovern

After moving to Carrow Road on the back end of a successful European Championship campaign, the Northern Ireland international has played 5 times for the Canaries.

Despite John Ruddy returning to the bench for the last match, McGovern could retain his place in the side for the Wigan game but it really is a 50/50 decision for the gaffer to make.

The former Hamilton goalkeeper has let in 5 goals in the last 2 games so his place could be in question, especially with the return of former England international Ruddy.

RB: Ivo Pinto

Pinto

Portuguese full-back Ivo Pinto returned to the Norwich City side in the last game after missing the Birmingham match a fortnight ago.

The 26-year-old defender has enjoyed a superb opening month of the season after being awarded with the club's Player of the Month award for August.

Norwich fans will be hoping to see much more of the same in the following months, including this game where his attacking intent will no doubt play a part.

CB: Timm Klose

Timm Klose

One huge piece of business which Norwich City managed to do this summer was to keep hold of the very impressive Timm Klose.

The German centre-back is extremely highly-rated at Carrow Road and he has stood out again this year.

His solidity at the back is clear for all to see and he never gives an attacker a moments peace - the trait of every good centre-back.

He will certainly offer the likes of Will Grigg a stern test in this encounter and he will do whatever he can to prevent the leakage of goals which they have suffered in recent games.

CB: Russell Martin

martin

Norwich skipper Russell Martin made his first start of the season in the win over Cardiff at the weekend, and after scoring the goal which put them 2 ahead it would be very hard to drop him back down to the bench.

The Scotsman also won the Man of the Match award so it is very likely that he will once again be picked instead of the unfortunate Ryan Bennett.

The experienced centre-back is a big voice in the Norwich side as captain and his presence is often underrated.

LB: Martin Olsson

After Robbie Brady was taken off with a quad injury very early on in the Cardiff match, Alex Neil has labelled the Irishman as a major doubt.

But he has however said that Martin Olsson will be fit to slot into the side in his absence and that will certainly be a major boost for Alex Neil's men.

The Swedish full-back can do a more than good enough job down the left-hand side and is perfectly capable of occupying both a defensive and an attacking role.

CM: Graham Dorrans

dorrans 2

Another man who made a return from injury in the last match is Graham Dorrans, who played the whole 90 minutes after being out with a groin injury.

However, due to the fact that he did play the whole game just a couple of days ago, he may not play the whole 90 again here for fitness reasons but he could very well prove us wrong.

The Scotsman has undoubted ability and he always has a goal up his sleeve, especially when you look at a Championship campaign with West Brom where he netted 13 goals from midfield.

CM: Alexander Tettey

Alex Tetteyd

Norwegian international Tettey has been a key part of this Norwich side so far this season, with him playing every single minute of Championship football.

The talented midfielder has shown his qualities at the top level before, so having him in the second tier makes him a real asset to Norwich City.

The strong defensive midfielder will constantly be looking to break up play in the middle of the park and to feed the ball out to the wide men.

RM: Jonny Howson

Jonny Howsond

Howson is another player who has shown his undoubted ability in the top tier of English football and he has continued in the same vein this season.

Howson, formerly of Leeds, has been a key source of goals for the East Anglian side so far this season with him helping himself to a goal and 3 assists.

Gary Caldwell's Wigan side will certainly have to keep an eye out for the 28-year-old as he is always looking to make things happen.

CAM: Wes Hoolahan

Hoolahandfg

Veteran of the game Wes Hoolahan is showing absolutely no signs of his age in his performances this season, as he has shown yet again the qualities he has within him.

The tricky midfielder is always finding pockets in the opposition's defence and he is very much one of the main orchestrators in the Norwich side.

If Wigan take their eyes off of him for just a few seconds they could very easily be made to pay for their mistake.

LM: Jacob Murphy

jacob-murphysss

The Murphy twins of Norwich City have been young and exciting prospects for a few years now, and it is only really this season that they have performed in Norwich colours.

Jacob has got the nod in the last couple of games, but his brother Josh came on against Cardiff and scored the goal which effectively won them the game.

Despite this, Jacob Murphy could see his name in the starting XI after playing a part in the creation of two goals at the weekend.

His pace down the left hand side will no doubt cause the Wigan defence all kinds of problems and he will be hoping to add another assist or goal to his name.

ST: Cameron Jerome

jeromeeee99

After struggling in front of goal last season, Jerome has got himself back into the swing of things, with three goals already to his name.

The former Birmingham forward has shown his talent many times in this division as he has accumulated 63 Championship goals over the course of his career.

The Norwich faithful will be hoping to see him score another in this one and to continue his form in front of goal for the remainder of the season.
