Last season was an absolutely terrible one for Newcastle - as the Tyneside giants flopped to relegation from the top tier of English football, for the first time in seven years.

Most of the clubs demise last campaign was under the leadership of 55-year-old ex-England manager Steve McClaren.

However, McClaren was relieved of his duties in March of this year, and was duly replaced by infamous Spanish boss Rafa Benitez.

Although unable to save the club from relegation, Benitez has made a string of wonderful signings this summer as he looks to orchestrate promotion back to the top flight at the first attempt.

The likes of Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle, Isaac Hayden, Mo Diame and Ciaran Clark have all arrived at St James's Park as part of the 'Rafalution' at the club.

Although they have made some great acquisitions, Newcastle's season got off to the worst possible start in the EFL opener on Friday night - as they succumbed to a 1-0 defeat at a packed out Craven Cottage.

Their first chance to rectify that loss is tomorrow, when they entertain David Wagner's Huddersfield Town side. Over 50,000 tickets have been sold for the game - and in this article Football League World writer Jack Sharp looks at a Newcastle team (lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation) that can beat Huddersfield Town tomorrow afternoon.

GK: Matz Sels

Although he looked short of confidence on his Newcastle debut last week, I would expect the Belgian to be in-between the sticks tomorrow afternoon.

The 6' 2" Belgian who arrived from K.A.A Gent earlier this summer should be given another chance to show his worth to Benitez in tomorrow's encounter.

RB: Daryl Janmaat

Daryl Janmaatbvc

Janmaat's future is one that has been questioned this window, however the Dutchman has now come out and committed to the club.

Jamaat started the season well last week, putting in a starring performance on the right hand side of defence.

If the full back consistently puts in performances like last week he will definitely be a key asset in any Newcastle success this term.

CB: Jamaal Lascelles

Lascelles

This one I think is a certainty, with the former England U21 international being named as captain for this season by Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez.

The 6' 2" former Nottingham Forest man wasn't flawless in his display last week, but definitely displayed the command and leadership necessary to thrive as captain.

He is a fans favourite at the club for the passion and commitment that he shows, he will surely be the base of the Newcastle defence and team this term.

CB: Ciaran Clark

Ciaran Clark

Clark has recently left one relegated club for another - leaving Aston Villa in favour of a move to Newcastle United.

Another new defensive acquistion (Grant Hanley) didn't look entirely convincing in his performance at Craven Cottage last week - I would perhaps expect Benitez to shake up his defence and offer a debut to the 26-year-old Republic of Ireland international.

LB: Paul Dummett

Paul Dummettd

Although the Welshman attracted criticism for his performance at Fulham last week - fellow competitor for the spot Massadio Haidara is injured, therefore Dummett is likely to start tomorrow afternoon.

Dummett is obviously capable of being a good and useful player for the club, and the 27-year-old will be eager to prove himself by nullifying Huddersfield's right sided player Rajiv van la Parre tomorrow afternoon.

CM: Isaac Hayden

Isaac HaydenIsaac Hayden

Hayden has recently signed for Newcastle on a five-year deal from Premier League giants Arsenal.

The former England U21 international showed some good signs in his performance at Fulham last Friday night - and will be eager to push on and thrive tomorrow, further proving to Benitez why he's worthy of a place in his starting eleven.

CM: Mo Diame

Diame has recently arrived at St James's Park on a three-year deal from newly promoted Premier League side Hull City.

The 29-year-old physically commanding Senegalese midfielder displayed his talent offensively by scoring a screamer at Wembley to win the play-off final for Hull City in May of this year.

He didn't appear at Craven Cottage last week perhaps due to his transfer confirmation time - however Diame is legible for tomorrow's fixture and is in line to make his debut at a 52,000+ St James's Park.

RM: Rolando Aarons

Rolando AaronsRolando Aaronsdd

Newcastle started last week with Vurnon Anita on the right hand side of midfield, and I'm not denying the Dutchman's capabilities on the flank - but he is predominately a central midfielder.

At half time, Anita went into central midfield to replace Jack Colback and Colback was substituted for the promising Rolando Aarons.

Aarons is an extremely talented player that I think is worthy of a starting position in Benitez's side for tomorrow's game.

The 20-year-old former England U21 international put pen-to-paper on a new five year contract at the club earlier this week, and I believe he is worthy of a starting place for tomorrow's encounter.

LM: Matt Ritchie

Matt RitchieMatt Ritchiedd

Ritchie has recently joined Newcastle as part of the overhaul at the club, joining on a five-year deal from Premier League side AFC Bournemouth.

Ritchie has experience of getting out of the Championship that could be vital to Newcastle this term - the 27-year-old scored 15 and assisted 17 and was a pivotal part of Bournemouth's promotion side of 2014/15.

The Scottish international was given his full debut last week by Rafa Benitez but endured a tough night in West London - however I would expect him to start tomorrow.

CF: Ayoze Perez

ayoze perezayoze perezddd

Perez is a player that has been linked with a move away from St James's Park this summer - however remains a Newcastle player, and started last week and is likely to start tomorrow.

The former Spain U21 international has been at Newcastle since 2014, and if he remains at the club he definitely possesses the pace, skill and finishing ability to inspire promotion this term.

ST: Dwight Gayle

Gayle3

Gayle has recently arrived at Newcastle for a fee in excess of £10m, from Premier League club Crystal Palace.

The 25-year-old is a proven goalscorer in English football, and although he was mostly anonymous in his debut during last weeks encounter with Fulham - I expect him to find his feet in the league very soon, perhaps even tomorrow, and be ruthless during this campaign.

It is perhaps debatable whether Gayle will start ahead of new Danish acquisition Elias Frijtof Sorensen; but I think Gayle will resume his place at the forefront of the attack for tomorrow's game.

So... Newcastle fans, what do you make of this? Will this line-up romp Huddersfield? What acquisitions do you need to make in what's left of this window?
