Garry Rowett's Birmingham City have started this Championship season extremely strongly indeed, perhaps far better than some might have expected them to have.

The Blues, who nose-dived into tenth place last time out have enjoyed a fruitful start to the new campaign and sit fifth after just seven games.

It's still early days and there will be few Bluenoses getting carried away with proceedings, but to have picked up twelve points from seven games is a real feat.

If they could continue that form, there is no reason why they can't be in with the pack come the end of the season.

Standing in Birmingham's way this weekend are Sheffield Wednesday, who themselves will be looking to kick on after an impressive 3-2 win over Bristol City in the week.

Carlos Carvalhal's side overturned a two goal deficit to come back into the game and eventually win and Blues will not be taking the Owls lightly ahead of their visit to St Andrews.

But we think that Birmingham City will have enough in the tank to win this game and possibly, even go as far as second in the table, if results go that way.

So with that in mind, here's our Birmingham City XI that will beat Sheffield Wednesday this weekend...

GK: Adam Legzdins

adam-legzdinsd

Reserve keeper Adam Legzdins came into the side for the 0-0 draw against Reading and whilst he didn't have a lot to do against the Royals, he looked solid enough and made a good stop to keep out a 25-yard-effort in the first half.

Deserves his chance in a first-team berth after understudying for Tomasz Kuszczak for the past season and with no news on the Pole's strain suffered in the warm up at the Madejski, he could retain his place.

RB: Jonathan Spector

Jonathan Spectord

With Paul Caddis' first-team return still looking pretty far away, Rowett is likely to stick with Jonathan Spector for the visit of Sheffield Wednesday this weekend.

The former Manchester United man has been a fantastic utility player at St Andrews and his versatility has been invaluable as he approaches his sixth season with Birmingham.

CB: Michael Morrison

morrison33

Has been a real leader on the pitch this season and the captain will be the first name on the teamsheet most weeks for Gary Rowett's side.

Has loads of experience at this level with the likes of Huddersfield and will be looking to keep the likes of Forestieri and Abdi quiet this weekend.

CB: Ryan Shotton

Shotton

Has been an absolute rock for Blues so far this season and his form has somewhat taken some by surprise.

He was lambasted by Stoke City fans before his move to St Andrews for his apparent inability to defend, but he's put those rumours to bed with some seriously impressive displays for Birmingham this season.

He's loud, aggressive and a great role model for some of the younger players currently coming through the ranks.

LB: Jonathan Grounds

Another mainstay in this Birmingham City squad, Jonathan Grounds is more than likely going to be a starter for this one.

Loan signing Rhoys Wiggins is slowly coming to full fitness but until then, the former Boro and Oldham man is expected to remain in the side.

Often cops a lot of flack from Blues fans but has looked reasonably solid over the past handful of fixtures.

CDM: Maikel Kieftenbeld

Kieftenbeld

A seriously tough-tackling holding midfielder, former Gronigen captain, Maikel Kieftenbeld is arguably one of the best players at this level doing the job he does.

He's dynamic, hard-working and reads the game fantastically well.

If Rowett can keep him fit and playing well, he can really help towards any promotion push.

CDM: David Davis

david-davisdavid-davis

Has been fantastic for the Blues this season and looks to be a key player in this Birmingham squad going forward.

He's surprised some Birmingham fans with a renewed attacking intent this campaign and like Kieftenbeld, adds real metal to the Birmingham midfield.

RM: Jacques Maghoma

jacques maghoma

Congolese international winger Jacques Maghoma was rested for the game against Reading but came on as a late substitute as Birmingham failed to find a winner in Berkshire.

David Cotterill was okay when given the chance but we feel that former Burton man Maghoma gives more attacking threat on the wing.

CAM/CF: Diego Fabbrini

Former Watford playmaker Diego Fabbrini has struggled to shine in Gary Rowett's Birmingham City side this season, but after getting ten minutes against Reading, we'd like to see him given a chance against the Owls.

LM: Che Adams

Che AdamsChe Adamsmmmjsjss

Che Adams came into the Birmingham City side this summer having been signed from Sheffield United. And he's impressed too, bringing plenty of pace and guile to the Blues flank.

He's naturally more of a central forward but has performed well out wide, despite competition from fellow summer signing Greg Stewart, who is awaiting his first start.

ST: Clayton Donaldson

Clayton DonaldsonClayton Donaldsondd

Expect Clayton Donaldson to come back into the side after Lukas Jutkiewicz was given his Blues debut against Reading.

The on-loan Burnley man struggled to make a serious impact at the Madejski and many expect Donaldson to take back his place in the side.

Donaldson is full of running and has hit a bit of form recently.

Will hope to add some more goals to his tally against the Owls.
