For Gary Rowett's Birmingham City, you can't help but wonder whether or not they could be the surprise package of this Championship campaign.

The Blues suffered somewhat of a collapse towards the end of last season, seriously losing pace with the promotion-chasers before finishing in a pretty disappointing 10th place.

Many Blues fans would have taken that at the start of the campaign but come the end of it, it was a little frustrating after what was such a good season.

But that's now in the past and Blues have started well this time out.

A fantastic 1-0 away win over Fulham will really boost confidence in the St Andrews camp going into Tuesday evening's match against Reading, and manager Rowett will know three points could go straight in the bag.

But after another good performance but with plenty of options on the bench, who should the former Burton boss go with? They sit fourth in the league and they will want to keep momentum going.

So with that in mind, here's our Birmingham City lineup that will beat Reading on Tuesday evening...

GK: Tomasz Kuszczak

A fantastic save to prevent Cairney from levelling the scores up against Fulham really kept Blues in the game this weekend, and the veteran Pole will keep his place for the trip to the Madejski.

He's been in top form this season and Blues fans are confident he is the best man between the sticks right now.

RB: Jonathan Spector

Jonathan Spectord

Has been filling in at full-back as Rowett's relationship with first-team regular Paul Caddis continues to go downhill.

The former Manchester United man is a real utility player these days and does a decent job at full-back, despite being a natural holding midfielder.

CB: Michael Morrison

If Birmingham are to do well this season, Morrison will be a big part of their success going forward. He made a fantastic block in the win over Fulham and has been one of the best signings in the last couple of years.

Solid, hard-working and an example on the pitch.

CB: Ryan Shotton

Shotton

Has been a real credit since coming in from Stoke City this summer.

Looked shaky during a loan spell at St Andrews last season but after moving to centre-half, he's looked solid alongside Michael Morrison.

He's a leader and if his form continues, it'll be hard to drop him from the side.

LB: Jonathan Grounds

The jury has been out on Jonathan Grounds over the past few months, but two wins from two games, with two clean sheets is pretty good going.

And on that basis alone, the former Boro man doesn't deserve to lose his place in the side. Might not be everyone's cup of tea all of the time but you can't drop players for the sake of it.

CDM: David Davis

His form has been absolutely fantastic so far this season and he's really surprised the Blues faithful, after being on the fringes of the squad last season.

He's tough, covers the defence well and loves to get stuck in.

Has been given more of a license to go forward this season too, which has worked to good effect.

CDM: Maikel Kieftenbeld

Kieftenbeld

Another fantastic Rowett signing, Maikel Kieftenbeld has been a revelation since joining the club last summer from Gronigen.

The Dutchman has everything you need to be a good player in the Championship and his ability to scrap and break up opposition play is seriously invaluable at this level.

A real fan favourite.

RM/RW: Jacques Maghoma

Again, another player that has started well this season. More goals would be nice from the former Burton Albion wideman but his ability to get down the wing and to the touchline is seriously effective in this Blues side.

With one striker upfront, his firepower is important and he should start the game against the Royals.

CAM: Diego Fabbrini

fabbrinifabbrini

A signing this summer, Diego Fabbrini has surprisingly struggled to get into this Birmingham City side.

Robert Tesche has been preferred in a slightly more advanced midfield role but we'd like to see the Italian given the nod in Berkshire.

He's skillful, direct and really brings something different to this Birmingham team, when given the chance to play.

Rowett has a big squad at his disposal and it wouldn't be a crime to change it up every now and then.

LM/LW: Che Adams

Che AdamsChe Adams

Won two penalties at Craven Cottage on Saturday - it's clear to see the former Sheffield United forward will be a big part of the Blues squad this season.

He's quick, enjoys running at defenders and seems to bring his colleagues into the game extremely well indeed.

Waiting for the goals to flow but it's more of a settling in phase. Adams will be good for Birmingham.

ST: Clayton Donaldson

Clayton DonaldsonClayton Donaldsondd

Like him or loathe him, there's no looking past the fact that Clayton Donaldson has scored three times in two games.

He picked himself up to dispatch the winning penalty for the Blues on Saturday, despite seeing his first spot-kick saved.

Hard-working and able to find the net at this level - we think Donaldson should be given the nod against Jaap Stam's side.
