For Aston Villa fans, it's been a torrid start to the 2016/17 campaign, after a quite simply dire one last term.

Villa fans have been left frustrated in recent times, drawing the last five games, and in three of them, conceded in the dying embers of the game.

To make matters worse, bitter rivals Birmingham City are on the fringes of the play-off places, as Villa find themselves 17th, with just one win, two losses, and a staggering seven draws.

On Saturday afternoon, they travel to Deepdale to face a Preston North End side who find themselves two places behind Roberto Di Matteo's men, despite winning two more times as Villa.

Unbeaten in two, it won't be an easy test for Villa, however with the quality the Midlands club possess, there's no way that they should be where they are now, and surely their fortunes will turn on Saturday afternoon.

That being said, here, FLW writer George Harbey names his starting 11 that will thrash Preston on Saturday afternoon....

GK: Mark Bunn

After only keeping three clean sheets all season, it may be time for a change in personnel between the sticks.

Having only made 10 appearances for Villa, now is the perfect chance for Bunn to prove his worth.

Although the captain has been subject to abuse following the club's recent form, a leader like Tommy Elphick cannot be left out, having made 147 appearances for AFC Bournemouth.

CB: James Chester

A key ingredient for any success in the Championship is having a consistent back four, and Di Matteo must look to abide by this ideology, by starting Chester alongside Elphick.

The 29-year-old has made 42 appearances for Villa, ever since joining from Valencia in 2014, and keeps Jordan Amavi out of the side.

RDM: Aaron Tshibola

The young starlet salvaged a point late on against high flying Newcastle United a couple of weeks ago, and in many Villa fans ' view, should be the first name on the teamsheet each week.

LDM: Mile Jedinak

Alongside Tshibola's energy, you need someone who will also provide experience and leadership in the middle of the park, and the 32- year-old Australian, who made 165 appearances for Crystal Palace, certainly provides that.

RM: Albert Adomah

The Villa Park faithful are yet to see the best of the powerful winger, ever since his summer arrival from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee.

He netted 23 times in 130 games for Boro

LM: Jack Grealish

Grealish has found himself subject to controversy in the news of late, however the talented youngster's passion for the club and quality on the ball will be influential for the Villans this term.

CAM: Jordan Ayew

The Ghanian netted what looked likely to be a winning goal on Tuesday night, however Barnsley's Sam Winnall equalised at the death to erase any chances of Villa's second win of the campaign.

Nevertheless, the forward more than deserves to keep his place in the first team - but who will he be playing behind - Ross McCormack, or Jonathan Kodjia?

ST: Jonathan Kodjia

Netting 20 times for Bristol City in his debut season in England last term, the £15 million man will definitely score the goals to spearhead Di Matteo's men to promotion this season.
