Aston Villa earned their first away win since August 2015 as Steve Bruce's influence looks like it's taking immediate effect.

Jordan Ayew netted a late penalty to give the Villains their first away win since they beat Bournemouth 1-0 on the opening day of the 2015/16 Premier League season.

Roberto di Matteo oversaw a disastrous start to the campaign as Aston Villa leaked late goals and squandered multiple points, to leave the club dangling precariously over the relegation zone.

Just one win in the opening 11 matches - against struggling Rotherham - meant that Aston Villa had no choice but to part with the former Champions League winning manager.

In Steve Bruce, they have found an experienced replacement with plenty of Championship nous.

After a draw with Wolves and a win over Reading, Steve Bruce will be hoping that his team can produce another good performance this weekend against mid-table dwellers Fulham.

The game will be tough, however, and Fulham will be buoyed by their midweek comeback against high-flying Norwich.

Aston Villa have enough quality to see Fulham off, though, if everyone performs to their ability.

This is the line-up Steve Bruce should select for this weekend...

GK: Pierluigi Gollini

Young goalkeeper Pierluigi Gollini is still learning but he is growing into this role as Villa's number one.

The Italian youth international is a better option than Mark Bunn between the sticks.

RB: Leandro Bacuna

Steve Bruce expects Micah Richards to miss this weekend's clash after his injury against Wolves, and Ritchie de Laet is still out so he has a choice between Alan Hutton and Leandro Bacuna.

It's not exactly the greatest choice but 25-year-old Curacao international Bacuna had a good game against Reading in midfield and adds bulk to the defence.

CB: James Chester

James Chester is an experienced head to have at the heart of defence in the Championship.

The Wales international has played plenty of games in the top two tiers of English football and will start this weekend.

CB: Nathan Baker

Tommy Elphick and Micah Richards are not expected to return in time for this weekend's game, so Nathan Baker should continue to fill the other centre half role.

The 25-year-old might be unspectacular but he is a no-nonsense defender who wears his heart on his sleeve.

LB: Jordan Amavi

For some bizarre reason, Steve Bruce has been selecting Aly Cissokho ahead of Jordan Amavi.

He needs to reinstate the 22-year-old France youth international because he is a much better option than Cissokho.

CM: Aaron Tshibola

Aaron Tshibola was rested in midweek but is a better option than Gary Gardner so should return to the starting line-up against Fulham.

The 21-year-old box-to-box midfielder is quick, strong and committed whilst showing maturity beyond his years.

CM: Mile Jedinak

Mile Jedinak looked a bit sluggish last weekend, but that is to be expected as he had only just returned from international duty.

The 32-year-old Australian dominates the midfield and is the perfect defensive midfielder when he is on form.

RM: Albert Adomah

Aston Villa's most promising outlet of late has been Ghanaian international Albert Adomah.

The 28-year-old set up the opener against Reading and will look to provide more quality service for the strikers at the weekend.

CAM: Jordan Ayew

Jordan Ayew came off the bench to score the winning penalty against Reading and Steve Bruce might hand him a start with some newfound confidence under his belt.

The 25-year-old Ghanaian international has goals in him and is likely to cause the Fulham defence all sorts of problems if he is on form.

LM: Andre Green

With Jack Grealish suspended, it is the perfect chance to integrate young talent Andre Green into the side.

The England under-18 international has plenty of speed and a first team spot to stake a claim for.

ST: Jonathan Kodjia

It's a tough call between Jonathan Kodjia, Rudy Gestede and Ross McCormack for the striker spot, but the Ivorian international is in goalscoring form so he should continue to start.

The 26-year-old arrived in the summer after impressing for Bristol City and would like to add to his three goals for the Villains.
