There are only four days to go until the 2019/20 EFL campaign gets underway, with Luton Town hosting Middlesbrough at Kenilworth Road in front of the Sky Sports cameras.

Both sides will be looking to kick off the season in the best way possible, with two managers looking to win their first game in charge of their respective clubs.

Graeme Jones will be looking to guide his Luton side to safety this season, whereas in the Middlesbrough dugout, Jonathan Woodgate will be hoping to guide his side to a promotion spot after a disappointing campaign last time out.

Woodgate is a very interesting appointment for Boro, who have often gone for a more safe and secure option recent years. The homegrown star will be looking to hit the ground running with three points in Bedfordshire on Friday night.

Boro have been relatively quiet in the transfer market under Woodgate, with the Teesside club bringing in three new signings in the form of Tomas Mejias, Marcus Browne and Marc Bola.

With kick off drawing closer and closer, we take a look at two ways Woodgate might set out his team on Friday night...

4-2-3-1

In their most recent pre-season friendly against Saint-Etienne, Woodgate set his team out in a 4-2-3-1 system. This saw Jonny Howson keep his place at right-back, with new signing Marcus Browne featuring in a three-man attacking midfield behind Britt Assombalonga.

Having Adam Clayton and George Saville play in a two-man defensive midfield pairing gives them stability going forward, and allows the three in front to focus on attacking duties and create plenty of chances.

Darren Randolph is set to be fit to face Luton, and you would expect him to keep Tomas Mejias out of the team if that is the case. Dael Fry and George Friend, however, won't be available for Friday night's clash, so it's expected that Daniel Ayala and Ryan Shotton will keep their place in the side.

With the addition of new signing Marc Bola, Boro could well line up like this against Luton.

3-4-3

Tony Pulis tended to use wing-backs last season, and Boro definitely have the players to stay wide and create numerous chances this time around.

Marc Bola would thrive as a left wing-back, and if they also sign Anfernee Dijksteel from Charlton as per recent reports, then he would slot in perfectly on the right-hand side in the long run.

Lewis Wing has impressed massively in pre-season, especially at the weekend, so alongside Clayton, they could prove to be a perfect midfield pairing.

Due to the absence of Friend and Fry, Sam Stubbs could be an option for Woodgate in central defence after impressing on loan with Notts County last term.

Marcus Browne is able to play out wide as well as a number 10, so he could be a perfect option at left-wing.
