Marcelo Bielsa has the Sky Bet Championship season approaching fast, with Leeds United still having plenty to do in the coming weeks.

Leeds began a gruelling two-week run of pre-season friendlies last night, taking on Forest Green Rovers, as they ramp up preparations for the new season.

Added to that, there is still plenty that must be done in the transfer window, with Leeds needing to strengthen certain areas of their squad between now and the end of the window next month.

There are some high-profile targets on Leeds’ radar, with Bielsa keen to shape a squad capable of really competing in the Championship next season.

Here at FLW, we take a look at what Leeds have available to them and others that could potentially be at the club next season, shaping an XI in a flexible 4-1-4-1 system, which was used by Bielsa in Leeds’ first pre-season friendly…

Blackman has arrived at Elland Road on a season-long loan and he will expect to be first choice when Leeds face Stoke on the opening day of the season.

Ayling is influential, with the right-back a really consistent performer.

Bielsa’s flexible system will allow Ayling to get forward.

Although a centre-back isn’t a priority for Leeds, Bielsa could look to strengthen in the loan market.

Foyth has previously been linked.

Jansson has been key for Leeds over the last two years and that isn’t expected to change under Bielsa.

Alioski has played in a much more advanced role in the past for Leeds, but there’s no denying he has attributes that would see him thrive at left-back.

He’d still be an attacking threat, particularly in the system Bielsa is looking to use.

Phillips has anchored the midfield in pre-season, dropping into central defence to allow Leeds’ full-backs to get forward.

In this flexible system, he’s the key.

Hernandez would probably prefer to play centrally, but he did well in a wide role last season.

Bielsa could use him in a similar role throughout 2018/19.

Phillips dropping so deep allows Forshaw to push forward.

The midfielder, in this role, can get on the ball and make things happen in the final third.

Saiz will be pushed into an attacking midfield role, whilst Forshaw will still have some defensive duties.

The 27-year-old could be the man Bielsa builds his side around.

Leeds are weighing up a bid for the Brentford winger, who scored seven goals and registered seven assists last season.

Ahead of Alioski, these two could be really dangerous.

Leeds’ interest in Vydra has cooled, but there’s no denying the quality he could bring.

Supporters are hoping the 26-year-old’s wage demands drop, as he would be some addition.
