It’s been a good week for Aston Villa, who started their Sky Bet Championship campaign off in perfect fashion before coming out of the transfer window with their biggest asset still on board.

Steve Bruce’s side were efficient in their clash with Hull City on Monday, battling back from a goal down to beat the Tigers 3-1 at the KCOM Stadium.

Tommy Elphick, Ahmed Elmohamady and Alan Hutton represented unlikely match winners for Villa, but the three points meant all the same to Bruce’s side.

Then, there was the small matter of the remainder of the transfer window, where Villa fought off Premier League interest in Jack Grealish, as well as making some shrewd additions to their existing squad.

Attention will now be turning to tomorrow afternoon, with Villa back in Championship action against Wigan Athletic.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the starting XI Bruce could well select, with it our belief he will stick with a pool of players that featured on Monday, as well as a couple of their new additions…

Nyland has been brought in this week and handed the No.1 shirt, which is a clear indication that Bruce will be backing him over Jed Steer.

Hutton scored a rare goal last weekend and looked really comfortable on the right side of defence.

There were a few poor moments from Elphick, but he scored on his return to the first-team for Villa.

Bruce should keep faith this weekend.

Chester is key for Villa and could well in set for another ever-present season.

Failure to sign Joe Bryan was a kick in the teeth, so we could see Taylor retain his place at left-back this weekend.

Despite Mile Jedinak’s availability, Whelan did well last week and should keep his place in a holding midfield role.

Elmohamady looked good in a more advanced position last week, with his goal rewarding a fine display.

Bruce should use him ahead of Hutton on the right side.

McGinn looks like an impressive signing on paper and Bruce will want to take a look at him as soon as possible.

The Scot’s inclusion could leave Conor Hourihane out of the side.

Villa keeping hold of Grealish was their best bit of news coming out of the transfer window.

The playmaker will receive a warm reception back at Villa Park.

Adomah was Villa’s top goalscorer last season and he should be looking to get this season up and running against the Latics.

Kodjia still doesn’t look quite at his best, but Bruce should still put his faith in the striker to lead the line.
