According to the Mirror’s live blog (5/7, 10:13), Micah Richards and Tommy Elphick are set to headline Aston Villa’s summer clear-out, as they look to rebalance their budget following John Terry’s arrival.

Villa have recently signed free agent, Terry, on a one-year deal, but it is likely that the 36-year old’s wage demands will stretch the club, who need a clear out to put their budget back in line with Financial Fair Play rules.

A number of players are set to be made available by Villa this summer, including Aaron Tishbola, Pierluigi Gollini and Aly Cissokho, whilst moves away from Villa Park also remain likely for Jordan Amavi and Jordan Veretout.

However, it is Richards and Elphick who headline the list of unwanted players at Villa Park.

Richards, an England international, featured on just three occasions last season. And the defender struggled to break into Steve Bruce’s plans, failing to make an appearance since October.

Elphick, who cost Villa £3m last summer, is another player Bruce is willing to let go.

The 29-year old defender made 26 Championship appearances last season, but Nathan Baker and James Chester were preferred by Bruce during the run-in, with the latter also taking over the captain's armband.

Villa fans… Are you surprised by this news? Would you keep any of these players heading into next season? Let us know your thoughts!
