The Yorkshire Evening Post’s chief football writer, Phil Hay, has indicated that Rob Green’s future at Leeds United is in doubt, with no guarantees that the goalkeeper will be number one next season.

Felix Wiedwald’s arrival earlier this summer has added to the competition at Elland Road, with Thomas Christiansen currently having four goalkeepers at his disposal.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell is still expected to spend the season out on-loan despite his proposed move to Oldham Athletic falling through, whilst Green, Wiedwald and Marco Silvestri are all on Leeds’ pre-season tour of Austria.

Reports on social media have indicated that Leeds will allow Green to leave this summer, but the YEP’s reporter claims that the 37-year-old’s future depends on who Christiansen picks as his number one for the new season.

Green played in all 46 Leeds’ Sky Bet Championship fixtures under Garry Monk last season, but the arrival of Wiedwald from Werder Bremen has put his place in doubt heading into the new campaign.

The former England international is coming towards the end of his career, and it has been suggested that the goalkeeper is unwilling to spend a season as second choice, which could lead to a move away from Elland Road, if Wiedwald begins the campaign as number one.
