Leeds United are well on course to win a long-awaited promotion back into the Premier League this season under the guidance of Marcelo Bielsa.

One player that is starting to show promising signs for Bielsa's men is Helder Costa, who struggled to make a significant impact when he first signed for the Whites.

He has made 36 appearances so far this season for Leeds, and will be hoping he can add to his goal tally, which currently stands at four in all competitions.

In an interview with Football Insider, former England striker Darren Bent feels as though Costa still has a role to play in Leeds' promotion push this season and made the bold claim in saying that he could turn out to be a 'hero'.

"I don’t think he was given the correct opportunities when he first came in, he spent a lot of time on the bench.

"He didn’t really get the opportunity to showcase what he is about but I think this is the time now, where the season maybe hasn’t gone to plan, he could still turn out to be a hero."

Bent went on to state that the former Wolves winger has the chance to make a name for himself with the Elland Road faithful, who will be hoping their side can make a long-awaited return to the Premier League.

"He can still help fire Leeds to the promotion – 13 games left, he can be an important player for them. The Leeds fans will remember that, if he’s played a key part in them getting promoted, Leeds fans will never forget that."

Costa and his Leeds team-mates are back in action this weekend when they take on Reading, in a game that they'll be expected to pick up three points from.

The Verdict:

I still think that we're yet to see the best of Costa.

He started relatively slowly into his time with Leeds, but is starting to show promising signs on the pitch, and if he can replicate the performances he had shown with Wolves in their promotion-winning season, then Leeds are likely to follow the same route into the top-flight.

I think it's a confidence issue at the moment, but once he starts to hit a positive run of form in terms of goals and assists, they're won't be any stopping him.

If he can hit form at this stage of the season, then I don't see any reason why Leeds won't win promotion back into the Premier League.
