Once upon a time in the not so distant past, Ezri Konsa was turning a few heads, important heads at that.

The Charlton youngster had a host of clubs interested in his signature, with Celtic joined by Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and just about every other top six English club. He was hot property indeed, bound for the bright lights of the Premier League.

Two years later and the furore has died down somewhat. Despite being a part of the U20 squad that won the World Cup in 2017, he's simply been allowed to keep plugging away at Charlton, a side struggling in League One.

Is he still the supreme talent he once was? Should the Scottish giants be paying him another visit? FLW's spotlight aims to find out.

Last night, Konsa was part of the Charlton side that shocked promotion hopefuls Shrewsbury at the New Meadow. He gave a calm and assured performance in the Addicks defence, keeping quiet the playmaker Jon Nolan to move his side up to fifth in the table.

It was his 35th start of the season, impressive for a 20-year old defender, but not surprising as it was the 59th of his Charlton career. He's grown up fast in League One, playing 3226 minutes so far this season, a tally he will only add to in the coming weeks.

During that time Charlton have changed managers and suffered a degree of turmoil, but he's kept his head and helped his side to eight clean sheets, the latest of which really ignited their late play off hopes. Lee Bowyer's appointment as caretaker is looking like a master stroke and the young defender is thriving under the new regime.

He can get forward at set pieces, he's six feet tall and has managed to add a single assist to his side's efforts going forward, but it is at the back where he truly excels. He's produced 20 blocks in his 35 starts, continuing to build on his potential from a season or so ago.

He's received seven yellow cards, by no means a terrible number for a defender who is required to tackle, fight and scrap for every ball.

For a 20-year old he's shown a huge amount of restraint and composure this season, belying his tender years. There's every evidence that he is still destined for bigger things and there's fewer stages bigger than Parkhead.

We think there's every reason for Celtic to resume their interest in Konsa as he's growing up incredibly quick in League One and getting better with every passing week.
