Clayton Donaldson and Chris Hussey will leave Sheffield United this summer, whilst Chris Wilder has deemed a number of other players surplus to requirements at Bramall Lane.

Sheffield United’s 2017/18 campaign came to an end last weekend following a 3-2 victory over Bristol City, with the Blades finishing 10th in the Sky Bet Championship table.

Wilder has quickly turned his attention to the summer, with James Shield from the Sheffield Star confirming that Donaldson and Hussey will be departing Bramall Lane in the coming weeks.

Donaldson, 34, arrived at Bramall Lane last summer on a short-term contract, with the striker going on to make 29 appearances for the Blades and score five goals.

The Blades haven’t taken up their option to sign Donaldson on for another year, whilst Hussey, who has spent the season on-loan with Swindon Town, will also depart Bramall Lane.

That duo are heading for the exit door, but could be joined by a number of others, with Wilder placing another seven players up for sale.

George Long, Ben Heneghan, Louis Reed, Nathan Thomas, Samir Carruthers, Caolan Lavery and James Hanson have all been made available.

The Verdict

Wilder has quickly turned his attention to summer, with Sheffield United moving on players who have been on the fringe this season at Bramall Lane.

Moving on a good number of these players will allow Wilder to add some much-needed quality to his playing squad ahead of next season.

The aim this summer has to be prioritising quality over quantity.
