Stoke City defender Ashley Williams is prepared to wait until the end of the season before making a decision on his future.

The 34-year-old is on a season-long loan at the Championship club from Everton and has found himself in and out of the team.

The defender has made 30 appearances for Stoke in the Championship this season, coming off the bench six times and has been used as a defensive midfielder and a right-back by manager Nathan Jones.

Williams is out of contract at Everton in the summer, but has insisted that he is not thinking about his future and is firmly focused on the remainder of the season with Stoke.

“To be honest I’m just getting on with it right now and trying to do the best I can in training every day and trying to play as well as I can," Williams told Radio Stoke, as quoted by the Stoke Sentinel.

“I’m working for Stoke City, working for the manager and at the end of the season we’ll see what happens with me.

“I haven’t planned anything, I haven’t spoken to anyone about anything. I’m just trying to enjoy my football as much as I can and do what the manager wants me to do.”

Stoke are currently 16th in the Championship table, twelve points above the relegation zone but thirteen points outside the play-off places.

The Verdict

Williams is an experienced defender and could be a good signing for Stoke, if they decided to sign him on a permanent deal.

He is out of contract at Everton in the summer and is set to become a free agent, so it would be a smart bit of business if they can get him on a free transfer.

It is unlikely that he will play for Everton again, but it is good that he is remaining focused on finishing the season with Stoke.
