Doncaster Rovers have announced a new deal for Tommy Rowe who will now be staying put at the club until 2024.

Following a poor season, Rovers suffered relegation to League Two this year.

However, with one of the key players from the team tied down to the club, they will be keen on a swift return to League One, something the player is targeting himself as he told The Yorkshire Post: "It's something we've spoke about over the summer and to come down here and get it sorted with everyone has been brilliant.

"I think at 33 I wanted to make sure when I returned last year that I was going somewhere I could spend the latter part of my career.

"You use the summer to reflect honestly and for me it's been a way of seeing how I can come back this season and help the team.

"Now my future is secured for the next couple of seasons, I can really go in and help the lads."

Furthermore, manager Gary McSheffrey has put responsibility on his shoulders as he said: "He's an integral part of our squad and our plans.

"He drives the culture, drives the team to how we want to do things and how we was to play."

The Verdict:

This is a great signing for Doncaster Rovers to tie down ahead of the new season as someone who was a core part of the side last year.

Furthermore, as someone who's an experienced head, he will be a great addition to the side who are looking to achieve promotion next season.

No doubt he will be the core of the side and he will be hoping he can put in a good shift for Rovers both on and off the pitch as he targets his aims.
