£315k-rated star will have freedom in attack: A tactical look at Sheffield United v Leeds United

Sheffield United will be looking to put a disappointing couple of weeks behind them this weekend when they welcome Leeds United to Bramall Lane on Saturday lunchtime.

Chris Wilder’s side have lost back-to-back fixtures, with both Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers denting the Blades’ play-off hopes.

This weekend presents a perfect opportunity for the Blades to bounce back, with a struggling Leeds heading to South Yorkshire.

Here at FLW, we take a look at the tactics Wilder could turn to and how his favoured 3-5-2 formation will adapt to situations in both attack and defence.

Jamal Blackman looks set to be rushed back in goal, whilst the likelihood is that he will be protected by a back-three of Jack O’Connell, Richard Stearman and Chris Basham – that unit will look the same both offensively and defensively.

When Leeds are attacking, you can expect to see wing-backs, Enda Stevens and George Baldock, dropping in, making a five-man defence.

Ahead of that unit, John Fleck, Lee Evans and Mark Duffy will be compact in a central area, whilst one of Wilder’s front two is likely to drop into a second-striker role.

Whilst Wilder’s side will look to be compact without the ball, they will look to punish Leeds in attack, with both Stevens and Baldock likely to be given freedom to get forward and create width.

Fleck and Evans will form a partnership centrally, which will allow £315k-rated Duffy freedom to roam in a number 10 role, where he will be tasked with providing the ammunition for Wilder’s strikeforce, which is likely to feature Leon Clarke and Clayton Donaldson.
