Blackburn Rovers remain well in contention for a Championship spot as they take on Wigan and Shrewsbury for the title in League One.

Rovers were perhaps the latest side to the title race party this season with the Shrews and the Latics being up there from very early on in this campaign.

It's not how you start, though, as long as you finish strongly and it would seem that the men from Ewood Park are going to do exactly that.

If Tony Mowbray can get his side into the Championship, though, they are going to need to strengthen but who's to say if they get that right they can't earn themselves another promotion challenge.

Let's take a look at the players they'd need to do that.

Jack Marriott is the man of the moment in League One and he'll be playing further up the divisions no matter what.

With that said, then, if Peterborough United are not promoted via the play-offs he'll surely be off and Blackburn could really profit from him.

They've got good strikers already but adding Marriott to their armoury would be a real statement.

Adam Armstrong has had a good season at Blackburn and looks capable of playing higher up.

There's a possibility that Newcastle will want to see what he can do for them but it's more likely another loan deal might be sorted.

With him enjoying arguably his best spell at Ewood Park, it's a deal that should once again work out for all involved.

Nahki Wells joining would be a massive statement from Rovers.

Financially it would be tough but even on loan it would surely be a boost.

He knows the area with him currently at Burnley whilst he also knows the league and what it takes to adapt to the Championship.

Steve Sidwell is looking short of chances at Brighton and could be worth a shout.

Rovers have the name to attract players better than most and back in the Championship they could really use that to their advantage.

He's got knowledge and experience and would be a good sounding signing.

£315k-rated Jack Payne is the kind of player that looks set to probably leave Huddersfield but excel elsewhere.

He might not be ready just yet for the Premier League but he's certainly Championship class and definitely potentially good enough for higher up.

It's a signing that Blackburn should look to make permanent.
