Nigerian international Chinedu Obasi has promised fans he's going to be fighting every inch of the way as they look to secure their Championship status this season.

Former FC Schalke player Obasi signed a short-term deal at the Macron Stadium after a trial, and has made three appearances for the U23 side as he continues to build up match fitness.

The 31-year-old is hoping to help the Trotters remain in the second tier during the remainder of his stay.

"I want to help the team any way I can," Obasi told the club's official website. "I’ve always wanted to be here, to play here [in England]. I love scoring goals and am looking forward to doing great things and helping the team. I’ll try to do whatever I can to support the team, help the team. The most important thing is the team."

The striker was a member of the Nigerian side that finished third at the 2010 African Cup of Nations, as well as being in the World Cup squad a few months later. He also won a Silver Medal at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and appeared in the Champions League for Schalke, but has most recently been with Swedish club AIK.

Bolton are currently six points clear of third from bottom Birmingham, but face both the Blues and relegation threatened Barnsley in the run in.

The Verdict

Obasi has pedigree, but can he do it on a Saturday afternoon in Barnsley? If he can, maybe he'll be at the Macron next season. The Trotters have struggled for goals and Obasi does have a World Cup under his belt. If he can repeat the performances of fellow Nigerian Jay Jay Okocha he'll soon be in the hearts of Bolton's fans.
