Derby County’s David Nugent has revealed that everybody at the club is trying to impress new manager Gary Rowett, reports the Derby Telegraph.

Rowett was appointed as Steve McClaren’s successor just two weeks ago, and has been tasked with the role of rebuilding the Rams after a disappointing season in the Sky Bet Championship.

Nugent scored a goal in Rowett’s first game in-charge, a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest, and has admitted that he and his teammates have been committed in training during the international break, as they aim to impress their new manager.

The 31-year old said: “It's a clean slate for everybody when a new manager comes in.

"It's been very competitive in training and everyone is trying really hard to try to impress.

"The gaffer named his side at Forest and now it up to these players to keep the shirt, hopefully until the end of the season, because if you're playing well, you will keep the shirt.”

Rowett’s side appear to be just playing for pride in the Championship now, with Derby sat tenth and nine-points behind sixth-placed Sheffield Wednesday.

The Rams have recorded just one victory in their last ten Championship fixtures, a run of results, which seriously dented Derby’s chances of a top-six finish.

Derby will be looking for their first victory since early March on Friday evening, when they face in-form QPR at the Pride Park Stadium.
