Bristol City are interested in signing goalkeeper Andrew Redmayne from Australian side Sydney FC, The Australian Daily Telegraph have reported.

Redmayne recently helped Sydney to their fourth league title in nine seasons, saving two penalties as The Sky Blues won the A-League Grand Final with a 4-1 shootout victory over Perth Glory, with Redmayne gaining attention by dancing on the goal line during the shootout.

After impressing during the campaign, Redmayne made his international debut in a 1-0 friendly defeat to South Korea on Friday, where he played behind current Robins defender Bailey Wright.

According to The Bristol Post, the club want to bring in a fresh goalkeeping option to rival Niki Maenpaa and Max O'Leary next season, following the departures of Frank Fielding and Stefan Marinovic at the end of the last campaign.

Redmayne moved to Sydney from the Western Sydney Wanderers in January 2017, and has gone onto make 79 appearances for the club in all competitions.

The 30-year-old has one year remaining on his contract with Sydney, meaning that The Robins will have to pay a fee if they are to secure his services.

The verdict

This could be a good move for Bristol City.

Redmayne's record suggests that he should be a solid option for The Robins, and although he is under contract, this isn't a move that they should have to break the bank to complete, given where he is coming from.

The links with Redmayne may seem unlikely, but this could yet prove to be a smart piece of recruitment for Bristol City.
