Portsmouth take on Luton Town this weekend as Sky Bet League One gets underway from 2018/19.

The middle division of the Football League, the competition often offers up clashes between fallen giants and smaller sides looking to break into the upper reaches of the game.

For Pompey, though, it's a Luton side who harbour the same ambitions as they do on the opening day.

Both have spent time in the lowest tier of the EFL and now both are aiming to get back into the Championship with many fancying the men from Fratton Park especially.

It should, then, be a good barometer for both sides at the early part of this campaign and so here is the XI we think Kenny Jackett will field this weekend...

Craig MacGillivray should have the number one spot this weekend.

Nathan Thompson goes down the right of defence.

Young defender Matt Clarke is still at the club and his stock could rise further this season.

Another young centre-half Jack Whatmough could feature alongside Clarke with the space up for grabs.

Lee Brown is in line to make a competitive debut for Pompey here.

No Jamal Lowe at right-wing so it could be 30-year-old Gareth Evans coming in.

Tom Naylor joined earlier this summer and will look to bring his promotion experience with Burton to the South Coast.

Versatile Walkes has played in midfield in pre-season and could keep that spot for this one.

Brandon Haunstrup could well stay down the left of midfield for now despite it a bit of an unfamiliar role for him.

Portsmouth's top scorer last season, Pitman will be crucial once again.

Kenny Jackett needs to decide who comes in alongside Pitman and it could be Ronan Curtis as the Conor Chaplin saga continues.
