Tommy Elphick has delivered a message of encouragement to Aston Villa ahead of this afternoon’s Sky Bet Championship play-off final with Fulham at Wembley.

Steve Bruce’s side are heading to the national stadium to take on Fulham, with the winner of this afternoon’s contest set to join Wolves and Cardiff City back in the Premier League.

Elphick will not be involved at Wembley this afternoon, but has delivered a message of encouragement to Villa on Twitter, ahead of a huge afternoon for the club:

The 30-year-old defender has featured on just six occasions in claret and blue this season, with Bruce preferring John Terry, James Chester, Chris Samba and Mile Jedinak at centre-back.

After a limited role during the first-half of the season, Villa sent Elphick out on-loan in January, with the defender linking up with Reading across the Championship.

Following his move to the Madejski, Elphick managed just a further four appearances, before an injury ended his season prematurely.

The ex-Bournemouth defender still has a year to run on the three-year deal he signed at Villa Park in the summer of 2016.

The Verdict

It’s good to see Elphick backing his parent-club this afternoon, even though he has found his spell at Villa Park a challenging one.

It shows the class of the 30-year-old, who would probably rather be preparing for the play-off final.
