Bristol City appear to be in a bit of a limbo state at the moment after another impressive start to the season teased their fans of a successful campaign.

With seven games played the Robins were in third place after a 1-0 win against Sheffield United made it four on the bounce for Lee Johnson.

Since then, however, they have won just twice plummeting them down into 13th, and they are now considerably off the pace as far as any potential promotion goes.

They sit on 22 points but are still just six behind Derby County, who currently occupy the final play-off spot, so there is still hope.

Opportunity for improvement is not far away with the January transfer window opening in just over a month, and managers across the Football League will be eyeing up potential targets as well as choosing who to chop.

Here, then, are the realistic deals we can see being struck at Ashton Gate this winter...

With Nick Maenpaa doing a great job in goal for the Robins this season there seems to be little future for 30-year-old Fielding at Ashton Gate.

Approaching the end of his career it is unlikely that he will want things to continue like this, so a move away is looking increasingly likely.

Bristol City love an exciting young striker, with the likes of Tammy Abraham, Jonathan Kodjia and Bobby Reid making a goalscoring name for themselves at the club.

Josh Maja could well be next.

His contract is entering its final months with the Black Cats and a deal could well be struck for the League One forward.
