After their relegation from the Premier League in the 2018/19 campaign, Cardiff City will undoubtedly be hoping for a change of fortunes this season.

No manager has been promoted more times in English football than Neil Warnock and the Bluebirds will be hoping he can seal a ninth promotion in the 2019/20 campaign, which he has said will be his last in management.

The Welsh club have been busy in the transfer market ahead of their return to the Championship, adding six new players, including centre-back Aden Flint and striker Robert Glatzel.

Eight players have also left the Bluebirds after their relegation from the Premier League, including most notably striker Kenneth Zohore.

Cardiff face Wigan Athletic at the DW Stadium on the opening weekend of the Championship and will be hoping to get off to a flying start against the Latics.

But who will line up for the Bluebirds?

There have been rumours about his future this summer but Neil Etheridge was one of Cardiff’s best players last season and he looks set to begin the season in goal.

With his size and physicality, Flint looks a player that was engineered especially for Warnock, so don’t be surprised if the six-foot-six defender starts alongside Sean Morrison at the heart of defence, with Joe Bennett and Lee Peltier either side.

Will Vaulks joined from Rotherham United this summer and I'm backing the Bluebirds boss to pair him with Joe Ralls in holding midfield.

Bobby Reid didn’t live up to his £10 million transfer fee in the Premier League but he should be more effective back down in the Championship, so Warnock will likely utilise him as the number 10 with Josh Murphy on his left and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing on his right.

Glatzel has one game left of a two-match ban he picked up before leaving Heidenheim, according to Wales Online, so he cannot play. Gary Madine picked up a knock in pre-season but is understood that he will likely be included and looks set to lead the line for Cardiff.
