Reading’s performance in the Sky Bet Championship this season has been underwhelming, particularly when you consider how close Jaap Stam’s side came to securing a Premier League return last year.

Stam’s side were a penalty shootout away from promotion, with major expectation at the Madejski Stadium that another challenge on the top-six would come this season.

The Royals invested in their squad over the summer, with Sone Aluko perhaps the most high-profile addition to Stam’s squad, with the 28-year-old arriving at the Madejski for a reported £7.5m.

Here at FLW, we take a look at Aluko’s stats this season from his 30 appearances.

The forward’s form in the final third has been underwhelming to say the least, with Aluko managing to score just two goals for Reading since his switch from Fulham, adding a further four assists to that total over the course of the season.

However, Stam’s summer signing is perhaps guilty of not shooting often enough, averaging just 1.5 shots per game.

Whilst Aluko’s involvement in goals isn’t where it should be, the forward’s passing stats making more pleasant reading, with the 28-year-old averaging 32.3 passes per game at a success rate of 82.7%.
