Steve McClaren was named as Ian Holloway's successor in mid-May but it's been a slow start for the former England manager at Loftus Road.

There have been several high-profile departures from the club, with Jack Robinson and Nedum Onuoha both leaving after their contracts expired, whilst number one Alex Smithies moved to Premier League Cardiff City.

Despite that, there hasn't been the transfer activity involving incomings as fans would've wanted. The R's financial situation is well-documented but it's clear they need new faces in.

The one promising aspect of the club is that there are a lot of talented youngsters coming through the academy and they will play a part again next season.

However, there are still reasons for fans to be concerned and here we outline three issues McClaren will need to rectify as soon as possible...

As mentioned, this is a very young QPR squad and McClaren should be looking to help them out with a few experienced signings.

The Championship is a demanding league and non-stop, so having players who are used to it will help. At the moment, there are few players like that in the squad and it has to be a worry.

The departures of Onuoha and Robinson has left the side very short on defenders. You could argue they needed numbers there anyway, as Robinson is naturally a left-back but had been filling in.

Now, they need at least two centre-backs to come in and improve the team because they lack quality and depth in that position now.

Another area that needs addressing is up front. QPR have a lot of talented attacking youngsters but they need a proven goalscorer.

Matt Smith is a fine option as a target man but others like Conor Washington and Idrissa Sylla haven't been consistent enough. A finisher is needed urgently to help this side.
