Queens Park Rangers had an impressive October that culminated in Steve McClaren winning the Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month award.

Four wins and two draws lifted the London club from the lower reaches of the table to within three points of the play-offs.

McClaren saw off competition for the award from Frank Lampard, Garry Monk and Neil Harris.

It has been some turn around at Loftus Road since losing their first four fixtures in the league.

But since a few loan additions, alternations in personnel and a formation change, the Hoops have never looked back.

Wins over then relegation rivals Reading, and Ipswich came before impressive victories over Sheffield Wednesday, and Aston Villa helped McClaren’s men climb up the league.

They also recorded a well-earned draw at home to an in-form Derby County side.

It had been a truly impressive October for the former England boss and with that said here are three words that sum up QPR’s October after Steve McClaren won the monthly accolade.

Before the month even started, QPR were down in 19th and had a tough run of games on paper to contend with.

Two matches with relegation rivals and three with teams fighting it out at the top of the division.

It looked like a daunting run of fixtures, and it proved to be so, but QPR had the ultimate turn in form.

The fixtures looked tough, and QPR fans wondered how points they would get, let alone wins, but they managed to come through the five-game run without a defeat and with four wins to their name.

Steve McClaren masterminded three victories in a row to end the month after a draw, and a win started it.

There wouldn’t have been too many QPR supporters who would have thought that run of results was possible on the face of it at the end of September but having been 19th in the division on 10 points.

Four wins and a draw later, and Steve McClaren’s men moved up eight places in the league and onto 23 points.

Ahead of tomorrow’s round of matches, the London club are just three points off the play-offs after a tremendous turnaround.
