Portsmouth have had a poor start to the League One season and find themselves sitting in 16th place having played ten games of the new campaign.

Kenny Jackett has been under pressure as manager, although the last three results will have improved morale around the south-coast after winning two and drawing one of the fixtures.

Pompey actually have three games in hand on a number of different sides in the league, so all isn't too bad at Fratton Park.

With that being said, here are THREE words that sum up Portsmouth's start to the season...

Lifeless

The season so far has been rather lifeless, yes they've had some big games and the expectation and support is there, but they've failed to live up to that or thrive of it.

They've been so poor and going forward Pompey have struggled to create and get the crowd involved during the games. Jamal Lowe is proving to be a big miss as he was one that could get the fans off of their feet, and Marcus Harness hasn't quite lived up to expectations since his great start to the season.

Stale

Another harsh word, but it's true, the season has been rather stale, and with all the hope and expectation that comes with a new campaign, well Portsmouth have been rather stale.

They need more energy and effort in their performances and to look like they really want the victory. The performance against rivals Southampton in the cup was poor, and the fans were the only part of the club that came out with any pride from that huge fixture.

An improvement is needed, especially with the talent that they have at their disposal.

Improving

The last three fixtures have shown that things are starting to improve, and the trust that they've given Jackett may well just pay off. It's rare to see clubs do that, as many others would have pulled the trigger but they've shown they can still compete with some of the better sides.

It's a big month for Jackett and the next three games could have a big say in what their aims are for the rest of the season.
