Sunderland have had an awful year or so and Chris Coleman didn’t really help that despite his best efforts.

The manager, who had done an excellent job at Wales that included his Euro 2016 miracles, joined Sunderland in November 2017.

The Black Cats were doomed, it seemed, and despite what seemed a shrewd managerial appointment, they could not be saved.

The club were relegated and subsequently sold, and Coleman was sacked after just five months in charge.

It was a dismal time for all concerned, and here, we try to pick THREE words to sum up Coleman’s time in Sunderland.

Do you agree, or can you think of three better words to sum up his tenure? Let us know in the comments section below.

Coleman’s time was disappointing, to say the least. He took over in November and although Sunderland had had a terrible start, there was still time to turn it around.

Coleman failed to do so, and Sunderland were left in one of the worst states the club has ever been in.

For a manager of his calibre to join a sinking ship like Sunderland could be said to be surprising and ill-informed.

He had job offers from Premier League clubs not too long before, so from a personal perspective, Coleman should have waited.

Coleman’s time was disengaging, and the fans could barely get behind the side.

The Stadium of Light still had good attendances, but fans were there out of habit really and didn’t enjoy watching their side in such a sorry state.
