Carlos Carvalhal joined Sheffield Wednesday as a relatively unknown quantity but left as one of the better managers of their recent history.

Although Carvalhal didn’t achieve his primary goal of promotion, the feeling was that he brought a positive brand of football to the club and the fans enjoyed it.

He led Owls to the play-off final in 2016, where they were defeated by Hull City at Wembley after beating Brighton over two legs in the semis.

The following season, Wednesday again got to the play-offs again, but were beaten by Huddersfield on penalties at Hillsborough.

Carvalhal’s final season was mundane, with him leaving halfway through.

Here, we try to sum up his time in THREE words.

Do you agree, or can you think of three better words to sum up his tenure? Let us know in the comments section below.

‘Nearly’ is the perfect word to describe his time - he nearly got Wednesday promoted, twice.

Whether Owls fans look on this as a good thing or bad is unknown, but he has done a better job than most in recent history.

Carvalhal was Wednesday’s first ever non-British manager, meaning he brought a different style to Hillsborough.

While he didn’t have the most expansive tactics ever, it was a welcomed change from past coaches.

Overall, it was a happy time for the club, and fans on Twitter still say that they miss Carlos Carvalhal.

He may have had his problems, but he made Sheffield Wednesday believe again.
