With the curtains set to fall down on another Championship season, we at Football League World are looking back at what has been another entertaining campaign.

There have been teams in the league that have well and truly impressed, whilst there are other sides that have been incredibly underwhelming, and ultimately should have done a lot better.

With Burnley and Middlesbrough securing automatic promotion to the Premier League, the fight for that final spot for promotion is still up for grabs in the play-offs.

Brighton, Sheffield Wednesday, Hull and Derby County battle it out of the next few weeks to see who will earn that coveted spot in the Premier League next season.

So, FLW contributor Daniel Ainsworth has selected the THREE winners and THREE losers from the Sky Bet Championship this season....

Winners

Burnley

The new champions of this division and rightly so.

They did get lucky with two results vs Middlesbrough and Brighton respectively, but absolutely controlled this division with a squad who have depth in most positions.

Exactly how to come back from being relegated from the Premier League.

Brighton

Although they will be disappointed to finish in the play-offs after their start, they need to hold their heads high.

They finished 20th last season and started this campaign excellently.

They were invincible for nearly the first half of the season, and after a bad patch, they picked up again and only just missed out on an automatic promotion place.

They should hold their heads high with pride

Preston North End

They returned to the Championship after a few years out and they were tipped to go straight back down.

However, the season has been completely different.

With scalps at grounds like Turf Moor, and winning crunch games at the Macron and the Valley, they have mustered a top half position. If they invest next year, they could replicate this.

Losers

Bolton

boltonnnn

An abysmal season may be an understatement.

Bolton came close to administration, had to sell their training ground to Wigan and never won away from home.

The loyal fans who travelled around the country never got to celebrate a win as Bolton finished rock bottom in 24th.

Blackburn

blackburn fans

The finish of 9th last year and the later announcement of experienced Paul Lambert gave many Rovers fans the optimism of a possible play-off push.

However, the season turned bitter when a winless streak between the end of December and February diminished the hope, and the only thing to play for was pride come March.

Fulham

fulhamch

They used to a mid-table side in the Premier League who needn’t worry about relegation.

However, just a few years later they became closer to the bottom of the Championship than the Premier League.

Fulham need some organisation if they want to return to England’s highest division
