The Sky Bet Championship season has been a struggle so far for Sheffield Wednesday, who have failed to have the impact in the race for promotion that many were predicting ahead of the season.

Carlos Carvalhal finds himself under huge pressure at Hillsborough, with his side currently sat 11th, six points adrift of the top-six heading into the final month of 2017.

The Owls have put together a six-match unbeaten run over recent weeks, but Carvalhal continues to find himself under pressure, particularly after three consecutive draws, two of which having been goalless.

Wednesday’s Portuguese boss has highlighted Wednesday’s lack of creativity as a problem following a 0-0 draw with Reading, where the Owls only managed one shot on target at the Madejski Stadium.

The likelihood is that Carvalhal will be forced to move in the January transfer window to add some much needed creativity to his side at Hillsborough.

With that in mind, here is a look at THREE players we believe he should be keeping tabs on…

Billy Bodin – Bristol Rovers

Bodin has what Sheffield Wednesday are lacking from midfield – goals and assists.

The 25-year-old has found the net on nine occasions across all competitions for Bristol Rovers so far this season, whilst also adding a further two assists to that tally.

Bodin has the ability to play on the left or the right, and would bring something different to the likes of Adam Reach and Ross Wallace.

Mimoun Mahi – FC Groningen

Mahi has been excellent in the Dutch Eredivisie over the last 18 months, bringing the winger to the attention of a host of English clubs.

The 23-year-old scored 17 league goals last season and added four assists, and has started the 2017/18 campaign in similar fashion with six goals and three assists from 13 appearances across all competitions.

Mahi might be a slightly pricey option for Sheffield Wednesday, but his record speaks for itself and the forward would drastically improve Carvalhal’s hand.

Josh Morris – Scunthorpe United

Sooner, rather than later, someone in the Championship is going to take a chance on the 26-year-old, who has been in phenomenal form for Scunthorpe in League One over the last 18 months.

Morris has eight goals and four assists already this season, continuing the fine form he showed last year for Scunthorpe (20 goals and 19 assists).

In January Morris will have just 18 months remaining on his contract with Scunthorpe, which could alert a number of Championship clubs.

Sheffield Wednesday must be among those taking a look.
