Wigan had an excellent campaign last season as they won League One to secure promotion back to the Championship.

They gradually grew stronger as the season went on last year, only losing two games in the New Year as they stole the League One title away from Burton.

Will Grigg was on fire as he bagged 28 goals earning himself a rather catchy chant in the process whilst midfielders Yanic Wildschut and Michael Jacobs also reached double figures.

David Perkins may have been slow on the goals front but his Player of the Season award shows how highly valued his contribution was.

Wigan will need to make some shrewd loan signings and bolster their defence if they really want to contend next season, but their attack will be up there with the best.....

Here are THREE Wigan Players you need to watch out for next season.....

Will Grigg

will grigg

Grigg has had quite the season in League One for Wigan scoring an amazing 28 goals to help them to promotion, and being nominated for League 1 Player of the Year in the progress.

He arrived on the scene at Walsall where he scored 19 goals in the 12/13 season and for 2 seasons running he has scored 20 goals plus in League 1 and now the 25-year-old is ready to step up to the Championship..

In the process Will Grigg has quite the following with a now famous chant called "Will Grigg's on fire" being born out of his great form for Wigan.

Wigan fans will hope he can replicate his form in the Championship next season as it may be the difference between promotion and mediocrity in mid-table.

Yanic Wildschut

Yanic Wildschut

Dutch winger Wildschut had an extremely impressive season for Wigan down the flank scoring 9 goals in all and laying on plenty for team mates like Will Grigg.

The 24- year-old is one of the fastest players in the Football League and tore defences to shreds in League 1 and can do the same in the Championship.

The Ajax academy graduate was instrumental to their promotion bid and Middlesbrough fans were very surprised when they let him go, as Wildschut continues to improve his finishing as well.

Wildschut will be keen to prove himself in the Championship next season as he failed to establish himself with Middlesbrough.

Michael Jacobs

Michael Jacobs

The former Wolves starlet failed to establish himself at Molineux after a bad loan spell at Blackpool and was subsequently sold to Wigan.

The 24-year-old is starting to show what he can do and was one of the best midfielders in League 1 narrowly missing out on Team of the Year.

David Perkins was excellent alongside him and Jacobs struck 10 goals making him their second highest scorer.

He provides good service to Grigg and his form next season will be pivotal to the club's fortune.

He'll also want to prove a point to old side Wolves who sold him to Wigan.
