Wigan Athletic host Nottingham Forest at the DW Stadium on Sunday. Paul Cook’s side are currently on a three game unbeaten streak at home and will be looking to improve that record with a win over Sabri Lamouchi’s side.

The Latics have started this season in a similar way they started the last. At home, Wigan are very strong, and with wins over Cardiff City and Charlton Athletic, Cook will be happy with how his team are performing at home.

However, since returning to the Championship in 2017/18, the Latics have won just two of 28 away games. A stat that will severely concern everyone at the club. If their home form ever falters, then Wigan will be under serious threat of relegation, unless their away form improves.

Forest, who sit second in the Championship table, will provide a stern test for Wigan.

Let's look at a few players that will be hoping for a start on Sunday...

Anthony Pilkington

The winger was Wigan’s best player during pre-season, but suffered an injury on the opening day of the season against former club Cardiff, which ruled him out until October.

The forward returned before the international break, and scored a crucial winner against Birmingham City.

Pilkington is exactly what Wigan need - considering Kieffer Moore is yet to score, they are relying on goals from elsewhere. The Irishman has a good goalscoring record for a wide man and will be hoping for a chance to double his tally for the season on Sunday.

Lewis MacLeod

MacLeod signed for Latics in the summer, following the expiration of his contract at Brentford. The midfielder started on the opening day, and played very well.

Since starting in the win over Cardiff, he has made just one league start, although that’s largely down to the form of Joe Williams, who has been outstanding since getting into the side.

Forest are very good on the counter-attack, using the pace of Matty Cash and Joe Lolley. Wigan will need to be good in possession on Sunday, and not lose the ball in key areas. MacLeod is a player that keeps the ball well, and likes to get forward, to join in attacks.

Joe Gelhardt

Wigan fans are desperate for Cook to unleash Gelhardt on the Championship. He rescued a point away at Hull City, with his first competitive goal for the Latics, a brilliant goal, too.

The youngster is part of the u-18 England squad, and scored after just 12 seconds on Wednesday, in England’s 3-2 win over Austria’s u-18s.

Gelhardt is an exciting talent, a player that gets fans off their seats. Whenever he receives the ball, Gelhardt likes to run with it, beat defenders and try to score goals.
