Cardiff City are having quite an average season by their usual high expectations, but are in the top half and could launch a play-off push in the second half of the season.

Manager Russell Slade has continuously come under fire from fans and they have called for his head on numerous occasions this season, but he does prove his doubters wrong by getting positive results regularly - the latest being a 4-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion yesterday.

Another man who comes under regular fire is owner Vincent Tan, who has been controversial since his takeover, in which time he has lead them to the Premier League but then to a struggling Championship team, and fans regularly boycott home games in protest of the ownership.

Their defence has been fairly solid this season, but they are short up front after selling striker Joe Mason to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

They have been mainly reliant on the midfield, with Anthony Pilkington and Craig Noone providing most of the goals and assists.

But Lee Peltier and Michael Morrison have been very solid at the back, and Cardiff may aim to strengthen their attacking and defending options to give them more depth going into the run-in.

West Ham have one of the best academies in England and have plenty of players good enough for Cardiff.

The young midfielder recently rejected a loan move to fellow Championship side Charlton Athletic, and could be ideal for Slade's plans.

The youngster has been scouted by some of the biggest sides in Europe, and has represented England at youth level.

The 17-year-old attracted critical acclaim after his sensational performance for West Ham against Arsenal on the opening day of the season, where he contained world-class players like Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez with ease.

He has not appeared much since then and needs first team football, and Cardiff is a likely destination as they are looking for some cover in the middle of the park.

Joey O'Brien

The full back was a fixture in the first team under Sam Allardyce when he was at West Ham, but the arrival of Slaven Bilic has seen the team resort to more attacking full back players, with Aaron Cresswell and Carl Jenkinson preferred on either side.

He is still an important cover player so may not be allowed to leave, but he is a full back certainly capable at this level, as he showed with West Ham a few seasons ago.

Cardiff would welcome O'Brien to join their other talented full back Fabio to bolster their defence for the run-in.

The 19-year-old Serbian striker arrived at Upton Park in the summer after showing promise in his home country.

He has also represented Serbia at youth level, and has scored goals for the European Championship winning Under-19 side.

Belic has been playing well for the youth teams at West Ham and is developing well. He could seek some first team football and the lack of strikers at Cardiff, after the exodus of Federico Macheda and Tony Watt in the winter, leaves the Bluebirds with very few options.
