After their play-off semi-final disappointment against Aston Villa this month, West Brom will be looking to the future.

The future of their club, the future of some of their best players and the future of younger players at the club.

The Midlands club are also on the lookout for a new manager, after James Shan took over as caretaker manager in April to guide the team through the play-offs.

However, the Baggies lost on penalties to fellow Midlands club Aston Villa at The Hawthorns in the play-off semi-final second leg, meaning that West Brom will spend another season battling in the second tier.

West Brom need to be mindful of the fact that they still have Premier League quality players on their books, and therefore high wages are most likely still being paid after their relegation to the Championship.

If West Brom do need to sell players this season, they have the ability to call on some promising young players that could make a good impact on the first team next season.

These three players below are just a few of the youngsters that the Baggies' new manager could call on next season.

Rekeem Harper

The 19-year-old went out on loan in the 2017/18 season to then-League One side Blackburn Rovers. However, he returned to West Brom in January 2018 after only playing a handful of games for the Lancashire side.

Although his spell at Blackburn Rovers was not successful, Harper has played youth international football since 2017. He has featured a number of times for the England U19, which could persuade the new manager to include Harper in the first team squad more frequently.

Celtic are currently interested in the promising 19-year-old, who could leave for a nominal amount this summer.

However, if the new manager can promise Harper first team football at The Hawthorns next summer, it may tempt Harper to stay and fight for his place.

The central midfielder is one of West Brom's brightest young prospects, they should do everything they can to keep him.

Jonathan Leko

The DR Congo player has been with the Baggies since a young age, coming up through the youth ranks at West Brom.

He made his first appearance for West Brom in a League Cup game against Norwich City in 2015 at 16 years old. Several Premier League appearances followed before signing his first professional contract with the club in July 2016.

His progress has halted slightly since, with an unsuccessful loan spell at Bristol City in the 2017/18 season. He made nearly a dozen appearances for the Robins before being sent back to West Brom, who were in the Premier League at the time.

However, Leko has youth international experience which will serve him well when making a case to regain his place in the first team squad.

Now that West Brom are staying in the Championship for another season, this could be a good chance for Leko to push on and try to get into the first team.

Kane Wilson

Birmingham-born right-back Wilson, like Jonathan Leko, came through the academy at West Brom.

The right-back had a reasonably successful season back in 2017/18 on loan at Exeter City, after making appearances for England youth teams between 2015 and 2016.

His two most recent loans in the 2018/19 season at Walsall and then a second spell at Exeter City weren't as successful, but he will still be looking to perform to his very best in pre-season to show the new manager what he can do.

The rumoured exit of Craig Dawson, who can play right back as well as in central defence, could enable Wilson to force his way in to the first team picture.
