It is expected to be a rather quiet week on the transfer front for West Bromwich Albion, who still lead the way in the Championship despite a mini blip.
The Baggies have won only one of their last eight games in the league, and the gap between themselves and third placed Fulham has been cut to just four points.
Nevertheless, Slaven Bilic’s side still occupy top spot in the Championship table and a 1-0 victory over West Ham United in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday could be the result to put them back on track.
With only four days to go until the January transfer window slams shut, it remains to be seen whether Bilic looks to strengthen his squad in their bid for automatic promotion.
Here, we take a look at three transfer developments to keep an eye on at the Hawthorns this week…
Can you get 12 out of 12 on this West Brom quiz?
Ferguson is currently facing an uncertain future at the Hawthorns, and thus far, there has been no movement on the new deal offered to him by the club.
The 19-year-old full-back has been a key player for Bilic’s side this season and has made 20 appearances in all competitions, but his current deal is set to expire in the summer.
Crystal Palace have been heavily linked with the young defender and have reportedly made a £4m bid for his services – as per The Sun on Sunday (26/01, page 61).
It’s a tough decision for West Brom – do they cash in on Ferguson now, or risk losing him on a free transfer at the end of the season in the hope that he will sign a new deal before then?
One player who West Brom are reportedly keen to bring in is Dinamo Zagreb winger Mislav Orsic, and Baggies fans will be eager to see him sign on the dotted line before the deadline.
The 27-year-old, in a total of 26 appearances this season, has scored 19 goals and produced five assists for Zagreb this season, with four of those goals coming in the UEFA Champions League.
The Telegraph claims that Albion are set to offer around £8m for the Croatian’s signature, in a bid to lure him to the Hawthorns before Friday night.
There has been no movement on that deal as of yet, but it will be very interesting to see whether they get this exciting deal over the line.
The prospect of having Orsic join the likes of Grady Diangana, Matheus Pereira, Matt Phillips and Romaine Sawyers in midfield must be a tantalising thought for Albion fans.
Preston North End are the only team in the play-off places to have conceded more goals than West Brom this season, which suggests that the Baggies may need to shore up their defence this week.
Ahmed Hegazi has failed to live up to expectations since returning from injury, and Kyle Bartley has also struggled for form due to injury problems.
The Baggies have recently been linked with Saint-Etienne defender Harold Moukoudi, with Stoke City, Derby County and Leeds United also being credited with an interest as per L’Equipe.
He is somewhat of an unknown entity but is regarded as one of the best up and coming defenders in Ligue 1, and has made a total of 15 appearances for Saint-Etienne this term.
This is a transfer saga to keep tabs on.
